The Best Damn Punk Princess : Avril Lavigne

Hello music lovers around the world, this is the first time I have posted content in this community. I hope I can be accepted in this community and you can enjoy it too. Because I really love music, and music itself is within me, even in my soul. I want to share a little about one female singer who I really like and influences the type of music I am into.

This is my own cassette collection from the first, second and third albums. I wonder if cassettes like this still exist nowadays?

Who doesn't know Avril Lavigne? A famous female singer from Canada, with all the characteristics of being original, not fake, and very popular among punk rock kids. Around 2003 she appeared on the international music scene and the style and music she brought really attracted attention among young people, the music industry and the world. How could it not be, she has it all. She is beautiful, has a good voice and is a songwriter. She is very talented.

This is a cassette tape from Avril Lavigne's first album entitled "Let Go" with the punk rock genre.

I remember once when I was still in middle school and when Avril Lavigne first appeared, there was a lot of excitement at school. My friends talked about her and discussed that cool female singer. With her distinctive and rocking voice, her original tomboyish and stylish appearance, long straight hair and gothic makeup with thick eyeliner on her eyelids, simple clothes and a tie as her characteristic outfit, and very cool Converse shoes and skater pants, right? As a girl who also likes music, I started to get distracted with her and wanted to get to know her more. She is a few years older than me and I don't know how it could be such a coincidence that she has the exact same birth date as me, only a different year of birth, September 27th.

It's really a coincidence that I really like Avril and our birth dates are exactly the same, right? Maybe our characteristics are also similar, hahaha. We are both music lovers and love to sing.

This is a cassette tape from Avril Lavigne's second album entitled "Under My Skin" with a more feminine and gothic appearance. Very strong punk girl style.

I started buying her cassettes at that time and collecting them. Complete from the first album to the third album if I'm not mistaken. I like collecting them. Apart from being able to listen to her music freely, I also get cool pictures of Avril on those cassettes. There are also song lyrics in it so I can sing the songs by reading the lyrics so I can memorize them quickly. Yup, I memorized almost all of Avril's songs because I really like her in person and her music. She is my inspiration in singing and in the field of music.

This is a cassette tape from Avril Lavigne's third album entitled "The Best Damn Thing" with a feminine and still gothic appearance that stands out as her trademark. The songs on this album are more pop rock than the previous album which still had a strong punk feel and seemed fierce.

Actually her first single was entitled Complicated from her first album Let Go. It's a really cool song and the lyrics and tune are also good and easy to remember. And of course I already know the lyrics by heart because I sing them so often that even now I sing karaoke at home with those old Avril songs.

When I saw the video clip Complicated it was also very cool and funny. There, Avril is also seen enjoying skateboarding and hanging out with her friends. The meaning and significance of the song's lyrics are also very easy to understand.

The next song that is very popular to this day from Avril is the very iconic Sk8ter Boi. Who doesn't know Sk8er Boi? The song is easy listening with pop rock music and there is a story behind the song itself.

Avril wrote this song herself and became very popular because the video was everywhere at that time, including MTV. This song tells the story from the songwriter's point of view who also plays a role in the story of this song. Tells the story of a punk skater boy and a girl who likes ballet, which means they both have very different and contrasting worlds, there is nothing in common, even getting together.

What's interesting about Avril Lavigne's first album is that on the cassette she wrote the lyrics of the songs she wrote by hand. So, the writing here is Avril's own handwriting.

In the first verse and first chorus it is clear that they are from different worlds but the boy likes the girl and actually the girl also secretly likes the skater boy, it's just that the girl's friends don't like the skater boy and look down on the boy like he does not deserves her, to be side by side with her. In the end, the girl didn't want to be with the boy either.

In the second verse and second chorus it is explained that the girl was sitting in front of the TV and was feeding a baby, she saw a man she knew, a skater boy who she had once rejected. She then contacted her friends and they already knew about it. They have even bought tickets to watch the show from the guy who has become a super star. She joins in and sees in the crowd a man who was once the skater boy and got rejected and is now a rock star with his guitar. Of course the girl was very shocked and felt down. How could it be that the guy who was once underestimated had now become someone famous and very cool.

In the next verse, the song's composer's POV is for the girl to say sorry because the man is hers now, they are more than friends, that is the end of this story. It's a shame that the girl can't see what the skater boy can become in the future, not only from the eyes but more than that, from within, from his soul and heart. As the saying goes, "Don't judge a book by its cover." That's true. Then the songwriter talked to her boyfriend, wanted to write a song about the girl he once knew and rejected him.

So this song called Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne, it is very cool and the story is also good and has a good meaning too. This song teaches us not to underestimate and demean people just because they look at their outer appearance, because we never know what that person will become like one day. People's fate can change, so don't underestimate other people. We must respect other people and not look down on them, because one day we may regret what we have done. We don't want to regret it, because turning back time can never happen.

Looking at these three albums, there is a transition in both the appearance and the songs created, but one thing that has not changed is the characteristic of the music which is still the same and has not changed.

Many of Avril's songs are very inspiring and truly valuable. That's why I really admire her until now, she still produces good songs and the genre is still the same and hasn't changed even though nowadays the music genre has changed and is different from the past, but she still maintains the music she likes and doesn't influence it easily.

Who doesn't like her, right? hahaha yes, same as me. I used to usually dress like her.
She is like a role model for young girls. She has her own characteristics that no other artist or singer has ever had.

Yea, the songs are good and I often do karaoke with her songs!
