Que tal, Hivers. La música en sus diferentes facetas es fundamental para cada parte de nuestras vidas, vez que vemos una buena película, va acompañada de una banda sonora que mueve y le da forma a lo que estamos viendo. Para una película de comedia, la música es fundamental para hacer reír, según el contexto; de igual manera pasa en el suspenso o película romántica. Hoy quiero compartir una experiencia magnífica que he iniciado desde hace unos años, cuando fui invitado a dirigir la música de una obra de teatro, hoy ya voy por mi segundo proyecto dentro de una obra de teatro llamado “Mucho, Poco, Nada, Todo”.
Hey, Hivers. Music in its different forms is fundamental to every part of our lives. When we watch a good movie, it is accompanied by a soundtrack that moves us and shapes what we are seeing. For a comedy film, music is essential to make us laugh, depending on the context; the same goes for thrillers or romantic movies. Today I want to share a wonderful experience that I began a few years ago when I was invited to direct the music for a play. Today I am working on my second project within a play called “Mucho, Poco, Nada, Todo” (Much, Little, Nothing, Everything).
La obra trata de una joven, que cuenta sus desdichas debido a una ruptura amorosa. En Venezuela “Montar los cachos” se refiere a la infidelidad, en esta obra se aborda como una joven (Alma) que se entera de la infidelidad por la chismosa del barrio (Castidad), ellas entran en ese juego del odio hacia los hombres por ser infieles. En cada parte se desarrolla como es que, (Julio) el joven que se decía ser su novio la engañaba con una tal flaca. La locura va dominando a la joven al saber la verdad, pero al final de toda la historia al joven le “Monta cachos” también, ella se entera por la misma persona que le habló acerca de la infidelidad del joven. Termina la obra queriendo saber todo, después de que no quería saber nada.
The play is about a young woman who recounts her misfortunes due to a breakup. In Venezuela, “Montar los cachos” refers to infidelity. In this play, it is addressed as a young woman (Alma) who learns of the infidelity from the neighborhood gossip (Castidad), and they enter into a game of hatred towards men for being unfaithful. Each part reveals how Julio, the young man who claimed to be her boyfriend, cheated on her with a girl named Flaca. Madness takes hold of the young woman when she learns the truth, but at the end of the story, the young man also “Monta cachos” (cheats on her), and she finds out from the same person who told her about the young man's infidelity. The play ends with her wanting to know everything, after not wanting to know anything.
El proyecto nace de ese ímpetu personal que nace del deseo de hacer cultura en nuestra ciudad de Cumaná. En este caso, la música estaría en mis manos y estaba entre crear toda la banda sonora o debido a que era necesario conectar a la audiencia de inmediato, hacer temas inéditos. Es acá donde manejo la situación en estos dos terrenos, donde mezclo temas conocidos con algunas creaciones inéditas. Para iniciar la obra se presenta la canción de “La Distancia” del cantautor colombiano “Manuel Medrano” en el medio de la obra hice un tema muy corto referente a la obra y en algunos segundos referencias al tema creado. Al final termino la obra con “Si el Amor Se Cae” de “Los Cafres” mientras el público se cae de risas y aplaude, la cereza del pastel es un tema post obra llamado “La Flaca” de “Jarabe de Palo” que hace referencia a la flaca de la obra.
The project stems from a personal drive born out of a desire to promote culture in our city of Cumaná. In this case, the music would be in my hands, and I had the choice between creating the entire soundtrack or, because it was necessary to connect with the audience immediately, writing new songs. This is where I handle the situation in these two areas, mixing well-known songs with some unreleased creations. To start the play, the song “La Distancia” by Colombian singer-songwriter Manuel Medrano is presented. In the middle of the play, I created a very short song referring to the play and, in a few seconds, references to the song created. At the end, I finish the play with “Si el Amor Se Cae” by Los Cafres while the audience falls down laughing and applauds. The icing on the cake is a post-play song called “La Flaca” by Jarabe de Palo, which refers to the skinny girl in the play.
Hacer teatro es realmente difícil y aún más presentarlo en un bar, esta apuesta que hicimos nos llevó a presentar la obra en un bar de la ciudad llamado “la guagua” apostando todo llevamos esta obra a este lugar y sorpresivamente tuvimos un lleno total y un disfrute maravilloso en ese lugar. Tuvimos en esa locación el reto de amplificar el sonido, donde todo fue excelente y entre risas y carcajadas la música jugó un papel fundamental, dejando una noche y experiencia inigualable.
Performing theater is really difficult, and even more so in a bar. We took a gamble and decided to perform the play in a bar in the city called “La Guagua.” We bet everything on this venue, and surprisingly, we had a full house and a wonderful time there. We faced the challenge of amplifying the sound at that location, but everything went perfectly, and amid laughter and guffaws, the music played a fundamental role, making it an unforgettable night and experience.
