[Music] A musical gem with a profound and considered taboo theme "Day Tripper"- 1965

Believe me, it's a true pleasure to be with you again, sharing my experiences and some historical and interesting facts about the group that gradually changed the entire cultural and musical vision of a generation, and of the generations that would come after... The Beatles.

Today, I'm pleased to present a very controversial song that, to this day, generates some unease due to its profound and somewhat "taboo" concept, stemming from the word "tripper." While "tripper" in English means "to travel" or "excursions," analyzing the lyrics reveals that the term "travel" takes on a inadequate connotation, as were the nights of entertainment in clubs. Of course, the song caused a stir, especially back then, landing them in the dock for composing forbidden songs that young people were listening to... obviously a scandal. I think that while the theme is profound and the lyrics are a bit daring, that doesn't detract from the extraordinary musical shift they were undergoing and creating at that time. Let's remember that this song was written in the heart of the 60s, a time of taboos, but also of liberation of all kinds.

This song was recorded for the recording sessions for the album "Rubber Soul," however, it wasn't included on that album released in late 1965, nor was its companion track "We Can Work It Out." They decided to combine the two songs into a single, released separately from the "Rubber Soul" album, and also decided that both songs would be A-sides.

Returning to the music, the guitar riff was composed by Lennon and masterfully performed by George, with Paul on bass and John on vocals, and Ringo playing drums and tambourine lines, always under the production of George Martin and recorded at EMI studios in London. Now I understand it clearly, with the experience of years and having listened to almost all their albums. Many years ago I wondered how Ringo could play the drums and tambourine at the same time. The answer is super simple: they recorded almost all their songs in multiple takes, or tracks. So, in one recording session they'd record the drums, and in another session they'd record the tambourine. Of course, now it's super easy for me to understand, but when you're 10 or 11 years old, it's kind of hard to grasp those kinds of details.

To give you an idea, there are songs of theirs where they recorded up to 50 or more takes of the same song—wow, impressive, right? And then they selected the best ones and put together the songs that appeared on the albums. Also, back then, recording consoles usually had up to four audio tracks, which in some cases made this task easier with the instruments (in the case of "Day Tripper," they only did three takes). Absolutely admirable!

Another detail I mentioned in other reviews, and which is noticeable in this video, is a video clip format, a precursor to the music videos of the 80s and popularized by MTV.
