Misa Solidaria: en memoria de las víctimas del terremoto en Venezuela. Centro Italo Venezolano de Guayana [ENG/ESP]
Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today I’m joining you here to share a new day in my life with you. It’s been two days since the tragic earthquake struck Venezuela and changed everyone’s lives. Many have had their work and other activities put on hold; however, at Canticum Merú, we decided to continue so we could lend our voices to the Mass in solidarity with our Venezuelan brothers and sisters. I wasn’t really in favor of rehearsing because, to be honest, I think we’re all quite shaken by the situation in our country, and morale is pretty low. Our minds are on other things: how to help, what to do, and finding solutions. However, since it was a noble and heartfelt gesture, we decided to go ahead with it and attend Mass this Friday. I think it’s a beautiful way to help—by being there and sending our support.
On Thursday, we went over the sacred repertoire, and we didn’t spend much time on it because we also had to be prepared in light of the recommendations to stay home and avoid risks. It was a brief but productive rehearsal. Today, we had to be there by 5:30 p.m. to warm up our voices and start the Mass on time. As you can see, there were smiles or half-smiles, but I speak for everyone when I say there was a certain sense of sadness and unease. As a choir, we must project an appropriate “image”—smiling, organized, in uniform, and with good posture. That’s the reason behind it.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en mi vida. Ya van 2 días desde que ocurrió la tragedia del terremoto en Venezuela y que cambió la vida de todos. Muchos han tenido suspendidas las actividades laborales y demás, sin embargo, en Canticum Merú decidimos continuar en favor de ofrecer nuestras voces para la misa en solidaridad de nuestros hermanos venezolanos. Yo no estaba muy de acuerdo en ensayar, pues siendo sincera, creo que todas estamos bastante alteradas por la situación en nuestro país y los animos están bastante bajos. La mente está en otras cosas: cómo ayudar, que hacer y buscar soluciones. Sin embargo, cómo se trataba de un gesto noble y con intención, se decidió trabajar en ello y asistir este día viernes a la misa. Creo que es una bonita forma de ayudar, haciendo presencia y mandando fuerzas.
El jueves repasamos el repertorio sacro y no estuvimos mucho tiempo en ello pues efectivamente debíamos también estar prevenidas antes las sugerencias de permanecer en casa y evitar riesgos. Fue un ensayo breve, pero fructífero. Hoy ya a las 5:30 pm debíamos estar en el lugar, para vocalizar y comenzar a tiempo la misa. Cómo podrán notar, habían sonrisas o media sonrisas pero hablo por todas al decir que había cierta sensación de tristeza y malestar. Nosotros cómo coro debemos tener una "imagen" idónea, risueñas, organizadas, uniformes y en buena postura. Esa es la explicación detrás.
When Mass began, several people had arrived, and we started singing. We gave it our all. It was particularly painful to sing Caccini’s “Ave Maria,” as it is a very moving song. Words were spoken in memory of those who had lost their lives, and a call was made to remain hopeful, as help is on the way. At the end of Mass, a mural by artist Oscar Olivares was unveiled. He had been working on a mural that represents Venezuela and Italy, united in a single image, incorporating icons of Bolívar State such as Roraima, the Macagua Dam, and our rivers… as well as Botticelli’s Simonetta Vespucci. It was lovely to see it and to share this moment with everyone else. By the way, they were accepting donations here: clothing, blankets, medicine, drinking water, etc. If you’re from Puerto Ordaz, you can bring these supplies—they’re accepting them.
Cuando comenzó la misa, habían llegado varias personas y comenzamos a cantar. Allí dimos todo lo que podíamos. Fue particularmente doloroso cantar el Ave María de Caccini, pues es una canción muy conmovedora. Se dieron palabras por las vidas perdidas y un llamado a mantener la esperanza pues la ayuda está llegando. Al acabar la misa, debutó el mural del artista Oscar Olivares, quién habría estado trabajando para ofrecer un mural que representara a Venezuela y a Italia, unidos en una sola imagen. Añadiendo los íconos del estado Bolívar cómo el Roraima, la Represa Macagua y nuestros ríos... Además de la dama de Boticelli, Simonetta Vespucci. Fue agradable ver eso y también compartir con los demás este momento. Por cierto, aquí estaban recibiendo las donaciones: ropa, cobija, medicamentos, agua potable, etc. Sí son de Puerto Ordaz, pueden llevar los insumos pues los están recibiendo.
