Interview with Peter Steele and Annie Lennox: A Great Legacy

Hello to everyone in The Weekend Experiences community! Today I'm joining the weekend with suggested topics. So let's get started with it.

Interview Schedule

I think we've all had it cross our minds (in those soliloquy moments) what it would be like to be in front of a figure we admire and also, to be able to have the opportunity to ask them a few things we've always wanted to know. So if that scenario comes true, I would like to be able to interview Peter Steele and Annie Lennox, both very talented musicians in their own musical genres. Here are my reasons why.

Peter Steele is one of my favorite artists. He was the singer, bassist and founding member of the doom-gothic metal band Type O Negative. I consider him an interesting character because of a certain perspective he had on life (or at least what he implied through songs and interviews) and to some extent, I also share that vision. At the same time, I'm intrigued by certain things about him that were never known because he was also somewhat wary of his privacy (and I understand that).

I'd like to ask how did he get the band to have such a unique style? how did he discover that his voice had potential? how did he overcome certain destructive stages? do you believe in love, loyalty and trust? do you feel satisfied with your work? how would you like to be remembered? do you believe that love is our greatest treasure? who are your favorite writers? what is the name of your first cat? do you think that your music will be remembered for many years? do you think that the music that is produced nowadays has lost essence, soul? who would you like to make an album with (a special artist or a band)? would you like your band to continue with another vocalist? what would you say to the public that admires you and wants to follow your steps? those would be basically all the questions. Some of them I can intuit his answer, but the confirmation would be a relief that unfortunately will not come because he already died.

Regarding Annie Lennox, I consider her as one of the best singers not only in her genre but also of her time. She started with Eurythmics (with her ex-partner, David Stewart) and in her late period she started as a solo singer, having great success. A unique, powerful and beautiful voice. I would ask her how she found the versatility in her voice? what techniques she uses to educate her voice? do you like theater and which play is your favorite? do you believe that authenticity is something infallible in your presentation as an artist? what criticisms made you grow professionally? Is there anything you would like to accomplish before leaving this world or everything is already done? do you consider that your music will continue to be listened to in the future? what would you say to the public that admires you and wants to follow your steps? how do you see the musical panorama nowadays, is it good? those would be some of the questions I would like her to answer.

Finally I must say that I felt very excited when I was writing this article because I could imagine Peter Steele and Annie Lennox in the same room and next to me. It is also a bit painful as I will never get to meet Peter Steele but I am confident that he has already answered many of my questions in his songs, his words spoken in life and finally in the memories of the people who knew him and carry his legacy into the world. Annie Lennox, still alive, is a great woman and perhaps in some future I might at least see her at some performance (if at all). These two artists represent a lot to me, so I guess wanting to know doesn't mean I want to dig that deep and get to the edge of them, it's enough for me to know the essentials. Without more to say, thank you very much for stopping by and reading my post. A big hug, see you next time.

Great questions for 2 singers who each left their mark on music in their own way.

I love Peter's voice and some of his Type O Negative songs are on my playlist. Annie has a powerful voice and you can still hear her songs on the radio to this day.

Thanks for the post and wishing you a happy week ahead! :)

Cheers 🙌 absolutely, these left a great legacy to this world. Curious to know for sure if they think the same. And good to know about what some of their music, is still listened to by many. Thanks for the support, hugs.

I know Peter Steele influenced at least one singer as you can check for yourself if you listen to Gothic Girl by The 69 Eyes.

I also think Christian Woman by Type O Negative may have been influenced by a song way older (late 60s) called Dark White by Bonniwell Music Machine which has slightly similar instrumentation and vocals. Especially the first verse when Sean Bonniwell sings, "Pale and wanton, white dry lipstick".

You can find these 3 videos on YouTube if you want to hear the songs. :)

Thanks for your reply!

P.S. You may want to look up the YouTube video titled:
What If Type O Negative wrote Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
Hopefully Peter and Annie would both like it!
