Cantemos a los Orfeonistas del '76: Canticum Merú y una sola voz [ENG/ESP]

Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today I’m joining you here to share a new chapter in my life with you. On this occasion, I want to share with you the performance by Canticum Merú and fellow choir members at the Choral Gathering in Tribute to the 1976 Orfeonistas (the Azores tragedy): “Let’s Sing for the Orfeonistas of ’76.” I must say right off the bat that it was one of the most moving and beautiful performances I’ve ever had the privilege of attending, both as a guest and as a spectator—and every song dedicated to the occasion truly lived up to the event’s significance. Here’s a little more about it.

Following Saturday’s event at the Teresa Carreño Theater, all the choirs that had performed that same day were also scheduled to perform at the Chapel of the UCV School of Nursing, to sing together in memory of the Orfeonistas. The gathering was also at 11:00 a.m., and we were welcomed by the friendly, talented, and kind-hearted members of the UCV Orfeonistas. I had never been to a place or an event like this, nor had I ever spent time with people quite like them. It felt wonderful to be welcomed so warmly and to see them so well organized. I had already heard about the Orfeonistas’ helpfulness, integrity, and diligence. Their reputation truly precedes them.

Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por acá para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en mi vida. En esta ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes lo que fue la presentación de Canticum Merú y amigos coralistas, en el Encuentro Coral en Homenaje a los Orfeonistas de 1976 (la tragedia de Los Azores): "Cantemos a los Orfeonistas del '76". Debo decir desde ya, que fue una de las presentaciones más conmovedoras y hermosas en las que pude estar presente, tanto cómo invitada cómo espectadora y es que cada canción dedicada estuvo a la altura del evento. Aquí les cuento un poco al respecto.

Tras el evento del día sábado en el Teatro Teresa Carreño, todos los coros que se presentaron ese mismo día también se presentarían en la Capilla de la Escuela de Enfermería de la UCV, con motivo de cantar todos juntos en memoria de los Orfeonistas. La cita era igualmente a las 11:00 de la mañana y fuimos recibidos por los amables, talentosos y bondadosos, Orfeonistas de la UCV. Yo nunca había estado en un lugar, evento y compartido con personas tales cómo ellos. Se sintió muy bonito ser recibidos de forma tan amable y tan bien dirigidos. Ya había escuchado de la servicialidad, integridad y diligencia de los Orfeonistas. Así que su reputación los precede.

By that day we were a little tired, because even though we’d had plenty of comforts, the strain of the trip was starting to take its toll. However, despite that, we all mustered up the courage and energy to deliver an excellent performance. We were the first to sing, and we began with “Donna Nobis,” followed by Caccini’s “Ave Maria.” Those two songs were sacred, perfect for the context of the gathering. We then continued with songs that were a bit more upbeat and joyful, since, as had been discussed beforehand, the intention for this event was not to focus solely on pain, sadness, or grief, but rather on joy, the happiness of life, and music as a means of expressing it. And that’s exactly what the other groups did.

The participants included: the Adelis Freitéz Polyphonic Choir, the ULA Workers’ Choir, Canticum Merú, and, of course, the UCV University Choir. Everyone shared some truly beautiful songs. At one point, many could not hold back their tears. It was a beautiful day, with clear skies and sunlight streaming into the venue, making the whole experience feel even more heavenly. The conductors mingled with one another, exchanging small gifts made especially for each other. I met some wonderful people whom I’m glad to have encountered. That was also our final performance before heading back to the airport to go home. It’s impossible to forget this weekend. Para ese día estábamos un poco cansadas, pues a pesar de que habíamos tenido varias comodidades, el peso del viaje comenzaba a hace estragos. Sin embargo, a pesar de ello, todas nos armamos de valor y energía para poder brindar un excelente trabajo. Las primeras en cantar fuimos nosotras y comenzamos con el Donna Nobis, seguido del Ave María de Caccini. Esas dos canciones eran sacras, ideales para el contexto del encuentro. Luego seguimos con canciones un poco más movidas y un poco más alegres, pues cómo se había hablado con anterioridad, este evento se quería tomar no solo desde una perspectiva dolorosa, triste o de aflicción, sino desde la alegría, la dicha de la vida y la música cómo un medio para expresarlo. Y así lo hicieron los demás grupos.

Participaron: Polifónico Adelis Freitéz, Coro de Trabajadores de la ULA, Canticum Merú y por supuesto, Orfeón Universitario de la UCV. Todos compartieron canciones muy bellas. En un punto dado, muchos no pudieron contener las lágrimas. Fue un día precioso, un cielo abierto y un sol que entraba por el recinto, viviendo todo mucho más celestial. Los directores compartieron entre ellos, ofreciéndose detalles hechos para unos y otros. Conocí personas maravillosas que me alegra haber encontrado. Esa fue también nuestra última presentación antes de volver al aeropuerto para ir a casa. Imposible olvidar este fin de semana. Dejo las imágenes, espero que lo disfruten y muchas gracias por leer.
