"Música que trasciende" [Esp-Eng]

Esto también me hace ver la otra cara de la moneda, y es que muchos pudimos vivir de cerca experiencias de buena música, pero llegamos a subestimar dicho presente. Recuerdo que en mi caso, una vez estaba viviendo en Ciudad Bolívar cuando en un tour musical, el mismo Ricardo Arjona daría un concierto en Puerto Ordaz. De ciudad a ciudad es como una hora de distancia, y en ese momento una entrada a dicho concierto no era algo tan inalcanzable. Lamentablemente, el peor error que cometí fue asumir que oportunidades como esas habrían a montón, y ahora me arrepiento de no haberme atrevido a asistir a dicho concierto. No quiero decir que hoy sea imposible hacerlo, pero en ese entonces las condiciones eran las más ideales que puedes imaginar.

Una experiencia reciente demuestra la influencia de las canciones de antaño en nuestro presente. Resulta que aquí en mi ciudad, un local de festejo poco a poco fue perdiendo la atención de las personas, así que los dueños empezaron a organizar fiestas y promocionar eventos los fines de semanas a fin de recuperar su popularidad. Tristemente la cosa no mejoraba en nada, hasta que a alguien se le ocurrió una brillante idea: “Fiestas retro” y concursos de canto y baile con temas de los setenta, ochenta y noventa. ¿Cuál fue el resultado? En pocas palabras “un llenazo total “, con la acotación de que la mayoría de los asistentes eran jóvenes.

Desde mi apreciación, la tendencia muestra que en unos veinte o treinta años seguiremos viendo a muchos jóvenes manifestar aprecio y un afecto profundo y sincero por esas canciones que, aún con muchos años encima, siguen en el tope del disfrute musical. ¿Cuál será su secreto? Pienso que siempre la calidad estará por encima de la popularidad. Por eso, habrán canciones que definirán cierto período de tiempo en la vida, pero las verdaderas canciones trasciende con el tiempo de forma única y especial, dejando que sea el tiempo quien dé el veredicto de aquello que consideramos un clásico, una verdadera canción llena de sentimientos y mucha emoción.

A few days ago, I was listening to a song on a social network, one of those songs that are defined as "chatarritas en español". Specifically it was a song of the group "Los Terrícolas" titled "Hoy te confieso", and my taste for these songs comes from a very young age, because it was what my grandparents and my parents listened to. I must admit that they had a good musical taste, which they also knew how to transmit to the whole family.

The truth is that, as I was listening to the song, I started to read the great amount of comments that many users shared, and I perceived a strange pattern regarding the opinion of some people, but especially of the younger ones. Expressions like "I'm fifteen years old and I love this song", "A like if you are a teenager and you are listening to this music", and many more comments that pointed to that criterion, how many young people today felt identified with songs that easily exceed decades of existence.

And with this I do not want to fall into those debates and hateful or selfish discussions as to which has been the best musical generation, since at the end of the day each one of us will find something good in the era we have lived, and besides, no one has been able to live all these generations and with this expose an optimal and balanced point of view in terms of music. But it is undeniable the fact that with the passing of time, the old songs (let's call them those of the past decades) are still very valid and even with more support than more current themes.

In this sense, many admit that they were different times, styles marked by the time that at the time marked a before and after, so it is not surprising that today they have the same sympathy they had in the past. In fact, some brave people have even catalogued "golden decades" in music, a period of time in which rock, pop, salsa, merengue and many other genres seemed to carry the patent of "hit song", something that many still hold today. Is that why today many young people long for these musical themes with such longing?

Just a few weeks ago, I was able to have a conversation with a friend, and when we got to the topic of musical tastes, she surprised me with the following: she told me that her favorite group was Salserin, the one formed by Servando and Florentino. She developed a taste for their songs through videos and recorded concerts she saw on You tube, but she was not able to experience that first hand because, at the time of Salserin, she was not yet born.

I must confess that when I saw the emotion with which she talked to me about her favorite song "Yo sin ti", my mind turned to the following idea: "What would have become of her if she had been born in the times of this group". It is so much the illusion and love for these songs that she still dreams of a concert of them remembering and interpreting their first hits, something that for my friend would be a first. It is impressive how a good song can transcend through time and with everything, to be able to have this kind of effect and transmit a lot of feeling to so many people.

This also makes me see the other side of the coin, and is that many of us could live close experiences of good music, but we came to underestimate the present. I remember in my case, once I was living in Ciudad Bolivar when in a musical tour, the same Ricardo Arjona would give a concert in Puerto Ordaz. From city to city is about an hour away, and at that time a ticket to the concert was not something so unattainable. Unfortunately, the worst mistake I made was to assume that there would be plenty of opportunities like that, and now I regret not having dared to attend the concert. I don't want to say that today it is impossible to do it, but back then the conditions were the most ideal you can imagine.

A recent experience demonstrates the influence of the songs of yesteryear on our present. It turns out that here in my city, a local party place was slowly losing people's attention, so the owners started to organize parties and promote events on weekends in order to regain its popularity. Sadly, things were not getting any better, until someone came up with a brilliant idea: "Retro parties" and song and dance contests with songs from the seventies, eighties and nineties. What was the result? In a few words, "a full house", with the addition that most of the attendees were young people.

In my opinion, the trend shows that in twenty or thirty years we will continue to see many young people expressing appreciation and a deep and sincere affection for those songs that, even with many years behind them, are still at the top of the musical enjoyment. What will be their secret? I think that quality will always be above popularity. Therefore, there will be songs that will define a certain period of time in life, but the true songs transcend with time in a unique and special way, leaving it to time to give the verdict of what we consider a classic, a true song full of feelings and a lot of emotion.
