"La tertulia entre la radio y la música" [Esp-Eng]

Aquello era como el himno de todas las mañanas, y debo admitir que aún ya de adulto escuchar esa canción es viajar al pasado y hacer escala en esas mañanas que formaron parte de mi niñez. Era impresionante como en casi todos los hogares se escuchaban programas musicales o hasta el mismo noticiero, dando el inicio de la jornada diaria para todas las personas. Difícilmente alguien se podía perder de esta fascinante conexión que se extendía durante todo el día.

La emisora que escuchaba mi mamá tenía un orden en cuanto a programas o temas musicales. En la mañana era joropo, música criolla bien variada. Luego seguían los temas más movidos de salsa, merengue, pop y otras apegadas a las solicitudes que hacían los radio oyentes. Al mediodía era el noticiero, y luego música romántica en español e inglés. En las tardes abundaban muchos programas de concursos musicales y ya en la tarde- noche, dependiendo el día, se colocaban músicas románticas o temas bailables (especialmente los días viernes y sábados).

Hablando de los fines de semana, cada emisora tenía un mix de canciones que colocaban durante toda la noche y era sabido que a veces algunas reuniones o fiestas colocaban dichas emisoras por la calidad y la buena música que contenían estos mix. En particular, me gustaba mucho uno que era casi que infaltable en cualquier emisora y era el del grupo Karú, un tipo de música bailable y agradable para pasar un momento bien ameno. También habían mix de salsa brava, merengue y lo que muchos conocemos como “la hora loca”.

That was like the hymn of every morning, and I must admit that even as an adult, to listen to that song is to travel back in time and make a stopover in those mornings that were part of my childhood. It was impressive how in almost every home you could listen to musical programs or even the news, giving the start of the daily day for everyone. It was hard for anyone to miss this fascinating connection that extended throughout the day.

The station my mother listened to had an order in terms of programs or musical themes. In the morning it was joropo, well varied Creole music. Then followed the more lively themes of salsa, merengue, pop and others, according to the requests made by the listeners. At noon it was the newscast, and then romantic music in Spanish and English. In the afternoons there were many musical contest programs and in the afternoon and evening, depending on the day, romantic music or danceable themes were played (especially on Fridays and Saturdays).

Talking about the weekends, each radio station had a mix of songs that were played during the whole night and it was known that sometimes some meetings or parties would play such stations because of the quality and good music that these mixes contained. In particular, I liked very much one that was almost inevitable in any station and it was the one of the group Karú, a type of danceable and pleasant music to spend a pleasant moment. There were also mixes of salsa brava, merengue and what many of us know as "la hora loca".

Algo que también marcó de forma especial esta época era la interacción entre la radio y sus radio oyentes. Los concursos en su mayoría eran sobre temas musicales, así que muchos teníamos la oportunidad de no solo escuchar sino también de participar en el programa. Incluso algunos tenían premiaciones bastante llamativos, como entradas a un concierto o material audiovisual de algún cantante favorito. Ya sea a través de mensajes o llamadas, era muy emocionante porque te sentías parte de dicho programa, y cuando ganabas pues aún más.

Una de las primeras canciones que pedí en la radio fue “Ahora” de Franco de Vita. Fue a través de una llamada, no lo hice al aire pero igual los nervios fluyeron a millón. Pero después de la solicitud, esa bonita expectativa es tan especial como indescriptible. A veces hasta decían el nombre de la persona que solicitaba el tema, lo cual te hacía sentir una persona importante. Otra sensación bastante agradable era poder pasar de una emisora a otra buscando algún tema musical, y de pronto encontrarte con algo muchísimo mejor.

Hoy en día la radio y la música siguen formando parte de nuestra rutina, pero desde mi punto de vista ya no es tan palpable como en otros tiempos. Las aplicaciones y la tecnología han facilitado un poco más las cosas, y ahora solo basta con tener un buen teléfono y una buena conexión para poder encontrar y escuchar la canción de tu preferencia. Los tiempos modernos han facilitado este proceso, pero ¿Han sabido transmitir la misma emoción y diversión de aquellos tiempos? Ciertamente es una respuesta bastante personal, pero en lo que si podemos coincidir es en como la música ha logrado trascender y dejar su sello único y especial a través de las épocas y los tiempos.

Something that also marked this era in a special way was the interaction between the radio and its listeners. Most of the contests were about music, so many of us had the opportunity not only to listen but also to participate in the program. Some of them even had very attractive prizes, such as tickets to a concert or audiovisual material of a favorite singer. Whether through messages or calls, it was very exciting because you felt part of the program, and when you won, even more so.

One of the first songs I asked for on the radio was "Ahora" by Franco de Vita. It was through a phone call, I didn't do it on the air but still the nerves flowed a million times. But after the request, that beautiful anticipation is as special as it is indescribable. Sometimes they would even say the name of the person requesting the subject, which made you feel like an important person. Another nice feeling was to be able to go from one station to another looking for a song, and suddenly find something much, much better.

Nowadays radio and music are still part of our routine, but from my point of view it is no longer as palpable as in other times. Applications and technology have made things a little easier, and now it is enough to have a good phone and a good connection to find and listen to the song of your choice. Modern times have made this process easier, but have they been able to transmit the same excitement and fun of those times? Certainly it is a very personal answer, but what we can agree on is how music has managed to transcend and leave its unique and special stamp through the ages and times.
