What's your wedding song? A #threetunetuesday post

It's hard to believe that in just a bit over a month I will be celebrating my 15th anniversary with @mrsbozz. How time really does fly when you are having fun! A couple of months ago I did a #threetunetuesday about songs you shouldn't play at a wedding. After I made that post, I decided eventually I should probably do a post about three songs that you should play at a wedding.

This isn't that post.

I'm going to save that one for a later date since both of those posts really have more to do with the reception than the actual ceremony. Instead, I am going to write this #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze, about three songs that I can remember hearing at a wedding.

Don't worry, I'm not going to be throwing anything like the wedding processional, or Pachbel's Canon in D at you. That would be too easy.

Instead, I am going to share songs that I can specifically remember being sung live at weddings. Having not been raised Catholic, that leaves a lot of space for non traditional stuff in wedding ceremonies. These three songs might not shock you, but they certainly aren't the traditional stuff that you might expect at a wedding.

Or maybe they are... I guess we will see!

When I was a little kid, my dad used to do a bit of freelance work as a wedding photographer. This meant that on occasion I was taken (dragged) along to different weddings. I was really young when this one took place, but for some reason I remember it was at our home church. It was a young couple that I didn't know, and don't really remember, but I do recall one of the songs sung at their wedding was "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac.

What really sticks out to me about this song is the fact that my dad had apparently never heard it before. I remember CD's were just starting to become popular and we had a fancy new Sony CD player connected to his component stereo system. He went out and purchase the Fleetwood Mac greatest hits CD and played this song over and over again.

He would often have to wait for my mom to be out shopping so he could really turn it up and give the bass line its due respect.

No cap, with the right setup, this song rattles the walls.

It should be no surprise that the wedding I heard this song in took place in the 80's. It was at a small church in a farming town in the middle of Michigan and I remember that because it was my cousins wedding. Fun fact, many years later, my sister now lives in that same small farming town.

Anyway, the reason this song really sticks out to me is because I actually knew the person that was covering it (the male part anyway). He was a young guy in his teens who wasn't much older than me at the time.

Call me sheltered, but I never imagined someone I knew and so close to my age could sing so well. I know, that was pretty clueless of me at the time, but it blew me away. He is still around and my sister and her husband are still in touch with him, but he had/has the most crystal clear voice I had ever heard and he absolutely killed this song when they preformed it live.

Sadly, the marriage didn't work out if I recall, but hearing their version of "Always" by Atlantic Starr will forever stay with me.

My favorite part is towards the end (2:40 mark, they sing it earlier too, but that isn't the one) with the line "ooh you're like the sun". The way the singers do it in unison always gets me. I know, I'm weird...

Finally, this song was sung at my sisters wedding. Oddly enough, that wedding took place at the same church the first song did. You might think the main reason I remember this song is because it was my sisters wedding. That's not the case.

I remember this because a mentor of ours was the one that did the female part of the song. Plus, Phantom of the Opera is just awesome. I got a chance to see it at the historic Pantages Theater in Toronto and it was amazing. Probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in my life.

Plus, Sarah Brightman is just awesome, so there is that too.

Anyway, I knew this mentor of ours could sing, but I didn't realize just how well. My brother in laws uncle did the male part and as I said, she did the female part. They absolutely killed it. It was fluffing amazing as I believe @tengolotodo would say.

Plus, when you think of it, it is a pretty good wedding song. The message is definitely there and fits right in with wedding vows whether traditional or not.

Finally, I am going to give you a bonus track this week. This song is from my wedding. It wasn't performed live, but we did have it played when we did the whole unity candle thing. If you don't know what that is, just go ahead and Google it.

I had never heard this song before by Ronan Keating. In fact, I had never heard of Ronan Keating before, but @mrsbozz found it online and fell in love with it. Yada yada yada, we had "This I Promise You" played at our wedding.

It's a great song and she had zero arguments from me about including it after she played it for me the first time.

See, that wasn't so bad was it? No boring organ processions or anything like that.

I hope you enjoyed!

How time really does fly when you are having fun!

Congratulation in advance for your 15th marriage anniversary. Like you said, time flies quickly when things are rosy for us. It is really commendable to see you celebrating your wedding anniversary. You must have sacrifice a lot to make the marriage a success and till counting. I do know your wife too would be an understanding person to make the marriage work as there a lot of divorce all around.

Songs are cool to remember when they are soul appealing. so sad that the marriage later collapse between the couple you had witnessed their union.

Thanks! Yeah, she definitely has a lot of patience to stick with me for this long. She's a saint for sure! The good news is my cousin got remarried and it has been working out well for the new couple for many years now.

Happy that your cousin later find happiness in his new marriage. It is a joy to see couple living together for long without separating nor divorce.

Ronan Keating was probably bigger here after being in Boyzone.

Our wedding was 18 years ago and we had this as our dance. It meant more to us than to most people there who had never heard it before :)

We're seeing Living Colour again this year.

That's awesome! Living Colour is a good band. I only know a couple of their songs. We didn't really have dancing at our wedding (long story), but we did have an impromptu spin to that same song I shared above. I can see how that song could be a wedding song for sure!

Being a single guy, none of the above apply. How about Girls, Girls, Girls?

15th anniversary... interesting. It's almost our 15th as well.

Now when I think of wedding songs I either think of my grandparent's wedding song, Unforgetable, or I think of The Wedding Singer and all the 80s hits in that movie.

That said, all your picks are good ones! That's funny about your dad going crazy with the Fleetwood Mac song.

The Wedding Singer is probably one of the greatest soundtracks of all time in my opinion. Right up there with Forest Gump. Unforgettable is a great song. I love it. Problem is, I sing it to my dog all the time, When we adopted her, she was already named Jett, so when we changed her name to Jovi, we kept Jett as her middle name. So I chase her around the house singing "Jovi Jett-able" Like I said, I'm a dork. Congrats on your almost anniversary!

Yeah, that is always an issue with posts like this. Part of the reason I leave the direct link. Even then, it still isn't viewable everywhere.

For real? That is cool. What a great story. He must be more popular over there than here, because like I said, I had never heard of him before. I don't remember him ever being on top 40 radio over here or anything. Haha, yeah, that is a great song. I have the soundtrack on CD somewhere.

I don't know about that last part, but thanks! :) Congrats on your recent marriage. 13 years is nothing to shake a stick at though. That's basically common law marriage I would think!
