#threetunetuesday: Vacation Redux!

It's been a summer full of vacations for me this year. Usually I only get one big vacation per year, but this year I am blessed to get two! The first one took place in the upper peninsula of Michigan and I am still in the process of sharing those posts with you.

The current one is taking place right now and I am sitting in a lake house on the shores of Lake Huron with 15 of my in laws. It hasn't been 24 hours yet that we have been here, but we have settled back into our normal routines with everyone.

As I sit and type this post, several members of my family are around a table playing Ticket to Ride and we already started a marathon Dominoes session last night.

If I turn my head, I can look out one of several windows and take in the beauty of Lake Huron.

#threetunetuesday was started by @ablaze and it is a great way to share some awesome tunes with each of you here on Hive. I love discovering new bands and sharing some of my favorite with the people who take the time to visit my blog.

I remember when I first started dating @mrsbozz she was lamenting that she had lost her Styx greatest hits CD. This was in the heyday of MP3's, so it wasn't too much for me to burn a new one for her. It must have worked because almost 15 years later we are still together!

One of the first concerts we went to together was a hot ticket of .38 Special, REO Speedwagon, Styx, and I think one other band. I do remember that Styx put on a heck of a show and it was a great first memory to share with her.

Given the fact that I am on the shores of Lake Huron watching boats and freighters float past I felt that "Come Sail Away" would work perfectly. While not my favorite Styx song, it is right up there in the top three.

As I said, I am sitting in a vacation house with fifteen of my relatives. It's a pretty big space, but it's still safe to say that it is a crowded house. Thus, I chose a Crowded House song for my second selection. There was a point last night where @mrsbozz and I had to move to a different room of the house because it was too loud.

We just aren't used to that kind of commotion 24/7.

Likewise, I also felt that "Don't Dream It's Over" is the perfect Crowded House song for this post. We are only about one day into our four day getaway, but I know that by the time Thursday gets here we are going to be wishing that our time wasn't at an end.

@mrsbozz's parents really cherish these moments that they get to spend with all of their kids. While several of us are in the same basic area, the others are spread across a couple of different states. Being all in one space sharing time with each other is a gift, even when we get on each others nerves.

Finally, I'm not going to share it today, but I promise in a future post I am going to show you a picture of what the downstairs fridge looks like at our rental house.

If you were a stranger and you walked in, you might think we have a drinking problem. That's really not the case, but when we do get together, we all like to cut loose a little bit.

A fridge full of cold beers, seltzers, and mixers for our drinks is just the way to do that. I know several of the people who follow me don't like country music too much, but this song is a great example of a really good country song.

I love it and it always gets me singing along. I got to see Justin Moore several years before he released this single, but he has always had a sound and some good songwriting that I really appreciate.

It won't be long before we need to head back to reality and all of our big trips for the summer will be over. It's definitely bittersweet, but that's just life right.

Do you have some songs that immediately remind you of vacation or some jams that are a must play for you while you are relaxing around the pool?

I'd love for you to share them with me!

Styx sounds like an amazing band to witness on a stage, always enjoyed their music. Crowded House another awesome track.

I have not heard Justin Moore previously, catchy, very country song, your local musicians we did not get to hear of unless they hit hit parade status.

That's too bad, there are a lot of great country artists here and Canada. Hopefully you can get a vacation soon!

We hear more now with TV travel where musicians are mentioned, there are many very good artists not reaching outside local regions.

They were so good though :D

Yeah... we used to have decent concerts out here in ZA. Then I think it just became too expensive to tour with the rand bottoming out :/

Dry season music wise for many years.

I still listen to them, btw ;)

Three great tunes! Great choices! Nothing wrong with stocking up on the booze, you do have to cut loose sometimes just like you said. Keep enjoying that vacation time, real life can wait until to you return!

Two vacations are definitely better than one and I'm glad you could do that. It's it amazing how those old songs bring back so many memories? I know now why older folks listened to "oldies" radio stations during our childhood. The streaming series "The Americans" had a lot of really good 1980's tracks and this sent be down the 80's music rabbit hole. There were a LOT of good bands back then, most of them I missed because I was listening to rap music at the time. I'm hearing quite a few for the first time now.

Oh yeah, I have really been impressed with tv shows in the last decade and the attention to detail they have taken with the soundtracks. It is quite commendable .

Big family get-togethers can be hard work, but you have to get on with them.

I don't know Styx too well, but their current drummer does a lot of lessons on Drumeo and I've had a few responses from him to my comments.

We had that Crowded House album and enjoyed it. They did some great songs.

I don't know Justin Moore, but that's such a country song. I only wrote one in that style and it mentioned how they are often about beer.

Keep on rocking.

Yes, it fits pretty much every stereotype for a country song! That is cool that the drummer from Styx is involved in drumeo. Talk about brushing elbows!

Todd is so enthusiastic about music. An inspirational guy. His drum room is just amazing.

I love it man, enjoy vacation number two, well earned man and sure you'll never regret having two vacations. Life is for living is my moto. Enjoy the time with family and knowing you there will be good tunes being played while ye are there too.

Crowded House was a perfect choice with you sharing with fifteen others, that's going to be busy no matter how big the house is! Enjoy cutting free with a few drinks, sure why not, it's important to enjoy ourselves too.
