Three Tune Tuesday: Climbing the Hive Mountain

Apparently Hive had a birthday yesterday and I am half inclined to call "BS" because there is no way we have been around that long! It feels like just the other day we were splitting away from that other chain and forging ahead on our own to become bigger and better.

I guess time really does fly when you are having fun!

I see a lot of people did some special power ups for the Hive Birthday. I did not, but I am going to do a pretty decent power up when the first rolls around, so stay tuned for that.

It's Tuesday today, so that means I am going to be participating in the #ThreeTuneTuesday theme started by @ablaze. It's been really fun taking part in these posts. It allows me to combine two things that I really love, music and writing.

I'm going to take a look back at the post I wrote yesterday and use that as the inspiration for my three songs today.

Let's get started:

This one is going to be what they would call "on the nose". The theme for this week is mountains (sticking with the theme of my last post), and what better band to be the first song than "Mountain". Mountain is one of those interesting bands, that most people probably don't even know who they are.

Sure, they might know the song above "Mississippi Queen", but if you asked them who sings it they might tell you Three Dog Night or The Guess Who or something like that. While I am sure there are dedicated fans to the band, they seem like more of a one hit wonder to me. Which is a shame, because if the rest of their catalog is anything like "Mississippi Queen", they kind of freaking rock.

It is definitely on my to-do list to dig into Mountain on Spotify today and see what they have to offer.

Since we are being so "on the nose", it felt only right that I should include this famous song by Big Mountain. Baby I love you way is one of those songs that pretty much everyone knows and everyone sings along to. Of course, Peter Frampton is the original writer and singer of this song.

I got to see Frampton open for the Doobie Brothers close to 15 years ago and it was a really amazing show.

That being said, I think Big Mountain is one of the rare occasions where a cover of a song is actually better than the original. It's close on this one, but man Big Mountain just killed this song (and that's good). It's funny because @tarazkp and I were just talking about that subject in the comments on one of his recent posts.

I've actually never heard this acoustic version of the song, but from what I am seeing it is pretty awesome. I am sure @steevc will love the focus on the drums. It's just a great jam with a feel good vibe.

Finally, I know I am probably going to catch some flack for this last one, but I had to include a little John Denver if we are talking about mountains. I know a lot of people think he is cheesy and corny. I'm actually reminded of a scene from one of my favorite movies "Super Troopers" when I think about John Denver (if you know, you know).

I'll be honest though, I have at least one of his albums on vinyl. Plus, if you ever get the chance to watch the special that PBS did on him many years ago, he was a really zen fellow. We should all be as lucky as him to be so at peace and have the time and means to commune with nature like he did.

Plus, he was pretty decent at writing a tune, even if the style isn't to your liking. There is something about throwing lyrics together that really garners respect from me. Whether it be a broadway musical, a rap song, country, metal, rock, or pop song.

Credit where it's due, John Denver could write a mean song about mountains.

You are probably thinking I missed way too many songs, and honestly you would be right. I was going to throw some Zepplin "Misty Mountain Hop" in here or maybe some Joe Walsh "Rocky Mountain Way".

Ultimately, I decided I am going to give you a bonus song, but it isn't going to be what you are expecting. If you read my post yesterday, you know it was a bit of an inspirational piece. Meant to encourage you to continue your Hive journey and never give up because the best is yet to come.

With that in mind, here is my bonus song for you:

That's right, I threw some Miley Cyrus out there. Miley before she got all weird. You have to admit, she has a crazy awesome gravely voice that is pretty special. Her antics aside, I feel she is a pretty talented musician and I actually enjoy listening to a lot of her music.

She has a new album that either just dropped or is going to drop soon and I am excited to check it out.

There you go, that's my Three Tune Tuesday, all about mountains. I hope you enjoyed!

I remember hearing "baby I love your way" from my days playlist a long time ago. Didn't pay much attention to it tho. Too bad I didn't.

Hive is very great decentralized platform I have ever seen, there is no doubt the community here is very sincere and supportive and the best thing of this platform os that it help students like me to meet their daily expenses. Our life is short, we should live it happily by traveling to beautiful and amazing places created by nature. You are doing great. Have a nice day

I havent heard Big Mountain for a while but it is a great tune. I was really shocked to see Miley go all weird. I watched her in the series Black Mirror was it? She was really great acting in that too. It is also like the reversal of what happened to Bowie, he was all weird at the beginning and then mellowed out and was pretty normal.

If you actually listen to her, you can tell a lot of it is just an act. She is really pretty down to earth from what I have seen. She has some backyard session that were really awesome. You should check them out on Youtube.

All very good songs. I must be an odd (or old) duck because I am a John Denver fan and enjoy his music.

He was pretty awesome. I really dig spinning his "An Evening with John Denver" album at home.

I don;t have any of his albums, but my older brothers did when I was a kid. Plus I remember watching him on the Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and he was also in a movie or two as I recall.

Yeah, he was pretty great on the Muppet Show. I remember that as well. If you ever find the PBS special, it's definitely worth a watch.

Nice theme selection today taking the road to music I have heard some not all!

John Denver (who hasn't), Peter Frampton more in the days with Humble Pie, as you said sometimes another band does a number a little better.

Now I look forward to an afternoon listening to them all, nice hearing on tunes Tuesday!

So going through vinyl diary (always keep track), Mountain two albumns Leslie West, and live show The Road Goes Ever On.... yikes forgot them!

No disks with Big Mountain, sure know that song though if I am not mistaken Bob Marley also sang this number.... Will have to listen to Frampton again to hear the difference.

John Denver not in my collection but have always enjoyed his songs. Never really listened to Miley Cyrus, this is pretty good 🙂

Well done on keeping theme running!

Cheers for the tunes. Some new stuff for me. I know of Mountain as part of one of their songs (Nantucket Sleighride) was used as a TV theme tune. Not sure I've heard of Big Mountain, but they do a nice version of a classic.

Very funny, I just finished listening to the Nantucket Sleighride album a couple of minutes ago. Now I am listening to Flower of Evil. If you get a chance, you should check out the radio version of that song by Big Mountain. It's the version I grew up on long before I ever heard the original Frampton cut.

It's Tuesday today, so that means I am going to be participating in the #ThreeTuneTuesday theme started by @ablaze. It's been really fun taking part in these posts. It allows me to combine two things that I really love, music and writing.

Always great to have you participate, as you have a similar taste in music to me, so you remind of songs I love or introduce me to new ones. That first one today was new to me and I really like it I must say. It's cool having a theme, like Mountain that you brought this week, and it carries your brain and soul of in a certain direction, I had not heard Baby I love you way in a while, and that was a great version. Finished out then with some John Denver and Miley Cyrus, who I will admit are not in my record collection, but always good to listen to different tunes, and I enjoyed their contributions.

One of these days I am going to share one of my absolute favorite Miley songs. It is a cover of an old Bob Dylan song and it is so amazing. I took a deep dive on Mountain after I made that post and they are so good. I'm shocked they didn't have more hits. It's worth checking out some of their full albums for sure!
