Lee Brice with special guest The Wilder Blue

I've been to enough concerts in my life, that I pretty much have the inside track for when tickets go on sale. I get at least two to three emails per day with presale codes for either my home area or the Ohio area since we attend concerts there as well. When I got an email letting know that Lee Brice was going to be visiting a local venue near us, I knew I had to get tickets.

He has some good songs and @mrsbozz really likes him, so it was pretty much a no-brainer for me. What I didn't expect was just how good his opening act would be. The Wilder Blue is a group out of Texas and they really had a similar feel to Midland for me. Midland is one of my favorite country groups right now, so I was pretty much loving it.

Anyway, in case you haven't figured it out now, I am going to use this #threetunetuesday post to share some photos and songs from the recent concert that my wife and I attended.

I've gotta admit, I think I am a bit disappointed in the whole presale process. I got a code and I used that and paid a pretty decent sum of money to secure our tickets. Concerts aren't cheap these days. Unfortunately, the concert was not sold out, so closer to the date, I saw tickets for a sale at a much lower price than what I paid. They were good seats too, not the nosebleeds like you would expect.

I've talked to several people since then, and they have admitted that they wait until the last minute to buy tickets because they can usually get a better deal and better seats than they would with a presale. Unless it's some artist that you know is going to sell out, that might be the way to go.

Unfortunately, there was one other minor inconvenience that made this concert a bit disappointing. You see, I thought sure I had emptied my pockets when we got home from work that evening. Imagine my dismay when I was going through the security line and I realized that I still had my Leatherman in my pocket. It was either leave my wife stranded and take it back to the car, or have security throw it away.

I choose the latter. I'd had that knife for over 20 years and it had been through a lot of events with me. I was really disappointed to see it go and my wife could tell. It didn't have any other significance besides the fact that I had it for so long. It was just a major bummer. I've since bought a new one to replace it, but I am still going to miss my old Leatherman Juice S2.

After seeing them live and then listening to some of their albums on Spotify after the fact, I have to admit that The Wilder Blue is one of those bands that absolutely shine when you get to see them in person. They have an energy that I don't think comes through the same way on the album. Despite his vast success, I feel the same way about Eric Church. It's almost like two separate people when you listen to his records and then see him live.

It was hard to pick a single song to introduce you to The Wilder Blue, but ultimately, I selected "Hill Country". I think it does a good job of showcasing their harmonies and as well as their musical skills. The band got together in 2020 just before Covid hit, so they had to take a bit of a hiatus before they really even got going. Now that all that is over, they have released something like four albums and they are touring as much as they can.

If you like this style of music, you should definitely check out The Wilder Blue.

The Wilder Blue played a relatively short 45 minute set, and then it was time for the stage change so Lee Brice could come out.

This is actually the last song he sang, but it's probably one of my favorites of Lee Brice. It's also probably one of his biggest hits, so it makes sense that he saved it for the closing song of the encore.

Brice got his start in 2007 as a songwriter before he started going out on his own and doing solo work. The fact that he co-wrote a song with Garth Brooks that debuted at #1 is a pretty dang good way to get your career started if you ask me. With the royalties he gets from that one song he probably could have made more than I ever will in my lifetime.

If you listen to the song above, I think you will understand why I like it so much. It's a fun song with a strong driving beat, it has a good message, and it just makes you want to get up and dance a bit.

These were a couple shots I took towards the end of the show. I really love the first one and I got a two or three similar shots to that. The yellow lights with him in the center is a really cool effect. I think the fact that you can only see his silhouette makes it even better.

This song I had to include because it is one of @mrsbozz's favorite songs of all time. He actually sang it pretty early in the show which isn't a bad thing honestly. "Love Like Crazy" has a really good message and it's just one of those feel good country songs. Which honestly is kind of refreshing because as a lot of people will tell you, most country songs are usually sad.

You can probably tell from the video that this song was released a bit earlier in Lee Brice's career than the previous one I shared. My wife had the chance to see him down in Ohio several years ago and she said this concert we attended was actually better than that one.

Personally, unlike The Wilder Blue, I feel like Lee Brice comes across better in album form than he did live. It's not that he wasn't good, or didn't have a lot of energy, but I don't feel like his vocals were that strong. As you cans see from the one photo above, the venue was pretty small and as I said, there were still a lot of seats unsold.

Overall, it was still a good show. It finished up around 10:00 PM and since the venue is so close, we were home before 10:30 if I remember correctly. Which is actually kind of good since it was on a school night!

That is a bummer about your Leatherman. Sadly I haven't been able to keep one very long until after I retired. They always seemed to walk away or get borrowed out and never returned. Good call though not leaving @mrsbozz though. I am imagine she wouldn't have been pleased.

She told me to go back, but I just didn't feel like it. She said it was dull and needed to be replaced anyway. There was something cool about having had it for so long though.

I get it. There are things I've had for a long time that have some meaning to me as well, although they are insignificant to most.

That sucks about the Leatherman, I love mine and it would be hard to part with it. But you chose the wife over it so she must be a keeper! lol

Some great songs! I haven't listened to as much country over the last few years. Actually less music in general, I find that if I'm writing it distracts me too much and I get less done. Great songs. That is pretty cool that you get all the pre-sale deals, which it sounds like aren't deals anymore. Concerts are getting just too expensive to very often. I remember paying $12 or $14 back in the late 80's for a concert. Long gone are those days!

Yes way long gone. I got a new Leatherman Wingman, but it's bigger than my old ones so I am still getting used to it. Even if you can find tickets for $25 a piece, the taxes and fees take you up close to $100 each.
