Three Funk-ish Tunes

Well, I missed posting this by the end of Tuesday in my part of the world, but hopefully, I made the deadline in your part.

This week’s recommendations are funk songs, and the first one is a favorite of mine by Sly and the Family Stone. Something about this song reminds me of Portoisehead, but on a totally different sonic level. Give it a lesson and see what you think of my comparison.

This next song, as hard as I try, I can’t remember how or where I first heard, but I know that I immediately looked it up after hearing about it and bookmarked it for keeping afterward. If memory serves me well, Apple and the Three Oranges were an LA based soul group. Most of the songs I have heard by them actually sound nothing like this one, which is a song that really could be made into a funk anthem. For me, it’s the song that I want to hear on a Friday night when I’m on my way out the door with all my friends.

Last is a song by the late great Gil Scott Heron. It has a good rhythm and a bright feel making it great for a sunny spring drive through the countryside.

Well, that’s all for this week. Apologies for the rush. @ablaze, thanks as always.

If you are using Hive.blog it is under the social tab, those hexagons down at the bottom are from Hive BUZZ. Gamification they call it. Trying to motivate people to post blogs at least once a day.

https://hivebuzz.me/@boxcarblue should be your page.

Hmm … I’ll just keep motivating myself on my own and keeping to my own questionable time zone. 🤣

I do not know much about music, but I like the calm atmosphere of the first song. Thanks for sharing.

I’m glad you liked it. I think that’s a really interesting song. It has a lot going on, but it’s very minimalist at the same time.

Nice one, really enjoyed all of these, familiar with all of the artists, but not all of the songs, so thanks for introducing some of them to me.

it’s the song that I want to hear on a Friday night when I’m on my way out the door with all my friends.

Ya I hear you, it's a good get up and go tune, no doubt.

Nice finishing track with Gill Scott Heron, pure funk machine! Nice one..
