Trent Reznor is the mastermind behind Nine Inch Nails, a band that redefined industrial rock, but over the years expanded the influences present in their work, while expanding the impact of their sound and influence on the rock scene.

Their music integrates references from rock, electronic music, jazz, ethnic and cinematic sounds, and has a very broad and diverse repertoire. However, within the universe they have created there are some great references, one of them is this song that was reversioned by Johnny Cash, and became an instant classic.

I've known about this interesting young singer from Norway for a few years now, and I always say I'm going to delve into her music but I never have. As if she's chasing me to find time for it, every now and then I come across videos kind of reminding me that it's something I have pending.

I remember that on one occasion I used a video of one of her live performances for a class and one of the students commented that she seemed to be under the effect of some drug because of her intensity when performing the songs, which is something I like about her, but you better watch the video and have your own opinion.

Sting is practically a music legend, both for his achievements with The Police and his successful solo career. And if anything has characterized him in this second stage of his career, apart from his approach to jazz and ethnic influences, is knowing how to surround himself with excellent musicians.

Something I really like about him are his live performances, because he almost always presents something different, either because of the musicians he is accompanied by, or because of the alternate versions he usually generates of his songs. This one, in which the choirs stand out in a remarkable way, is a good example of that.

Sting es prácticamente una leyenda de la música, tanto por lo logrado con The Police como en su exitosa trayectoria en solitario. Y si algo lo ha caracterizado en esta segunda etapa de su carrera, aparte de su acercamiento al jazz y las influencias étnicas, es el saber rodearse de excelentes músicos.

The first time I heard Cigarettes After Sex I assumed they had a female vocalist, something I later discovered that many others have thought as well. However upon seeing them for the first time I realized my mistake and that the voice, leader and founder of the band was a man, to be exact Greg Gonzalez.

The band has the peculiar characteristic that several of their songs are part of the soundtrack of numerous movies and TV series, and are very relaxing and cinematic. Their songs enjoy the merit of simplicity, so well achieved that seeing them live can even border on boring. Their music is ideal to listen to in the background while studying or working, try it and see what you think.
