$MUSIC Tokenomics: A Monetary Policy Built for Music

Most crypto tokens have a whitepaper that describes what the token is supposed to do. BlockTunes has a running system that shows you exactly what it does, in real time, on-chain, every time music plays.

Supply and Issuance

$MUSIC has a maximum supply of 420 million tokens. Only a fraction of that is currently in circulation. No pre-mine. No team allocation. No tokens sold before launch. We earn through the platform just like everyone else.

$MUSIC is a Smart Media Token (SMT) on Hive-Engine, which means it distributes using the same proven model as HIVE itself, Proof of Brain and Proof of Stake, with an additional streaming reward layer built on top.

Daily SMT emission: 1,064 $MUSIC

Proof of Brain (81.2% / 864 MUSIC per day): Posts published to the BlockTunes community earn $MUSIC author rewards based on upvotes from MUSIC stakeholders. Stakeholders who upvote earn curation rewards. The more MUSIC you have staked, the more weight your vote carries and the more you earn for curating good content.

Proof of Stake (18.8% / 200 MUSIC per day): Staking your $MUSIC earns approximately 9.59% APR in passive staking rewards, distributed automatically. No claiming, no check-ins. Use these tokens in the ecosystem, or keep on staking.

Streaming rewards (separate layer)

On top of the SMT emission, every qualifying NFT stream mints 16 fresh $MUSIC tokens and distributes them to the artist, edition holders, BlockTunes, and the A&R rep. This is an additional issuance layer tied directly to music being played. The more the library grows and the more people listen, the more this channel contributes to total supply.

The HIVE Component

Here's something worth understanding. Every qualifying play also pays 0.1 HIVE from the blocktunesdao treasury, distributed the same four ways as the MUSIC payout.

We built this because MUSIC is designed to be a utility token for the platform. It's what you use to access features, buy editions, and stake for AI tools. We wanted people to have a separate token they can actually take off the platform and do something with. HIVE is that token. You can swap it for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or whatever else you want on the open market. Cash it out, stack it, trade it, it's yours to do with as you please. The MUSIC stays as your access token inside the ecosystem.

So when you stream on BlockTunes, you're earning two things at once: a utility token that works for you on the platform, and a freely tradeable token that you can exchange for anything you like. That's the design.

The Streaming Reward Halving Schedule

The streaming reward halves every two years from the platform launch date:

At 1 $MUSIC per play, the halving stops permanently. The tail emission continues indefinitely -- artists always earn, edition holders always earn, and the incentive to hold never disappears.

We are in the Genesis Era right now. The reward is at the highest rate it will ever be. Early artists, fans, and edition holders are earning at the top of the curve. That window is open until May 2028.

The Burn Mechanism

$MUSIC is deflationary by design. Tokens are burned, permanently transferred on-chain to the @null account and removed from circulation forever, through three separate channels.

Marketplace burns: Every whitelist application fee and every minting fee on the BlockTunes NFT marketplace is automatically burned the moment it's received. These tokens are never recycled, never reallocated, never controlled by anyone. They're gone.

Credit purchase burns: When users buy AI credit bundles with $MUSIC, those tokens are burned on confirmation.

Every credit purchase that routes through $MUSIC removes tokens from supply permanently. The more the platform is used, the more gets destroyed. Both burn channels scale directly with platform growth -- more artists joining and minting, more users running AI tools, all of it creates deflationary pressure.

How $MUSIC Is Used

Beyond streaming rewards, $MUSIC is the currency of the BlockTunes ecosystem:

• Minting fees: paid in $MUSIC when an artist mints a new NFT
• Edition purchases: fans buy editions from artists in $MUSIC
• Tipping: tip any creator directly in $MUSIC on their profile or any track card
• AI Credits: burn $MUSIC directly to buy AI credit bundles. Tokens are permanently destroyed on confirmation.
• Staking: stake $MUSIC to qualify for Bronze, Silver, or Gold tier AI tool access

The more the platform grows, the more demand flows through the token, and the more gets burned at the mint and whitelist stage.
