Three Tune Tuesday - Trying Out New Genres - UK Rap
For years now the rap scene in America has been pretty much unrivalled but other countries are catching up and catching up fast. The rap scene in France has always been popular as the French accent does go well with rapping and the fact that it is in the French language , it stays in France and not many go main stream but over the last 5 years the UK rap scene has gone from strength to strength.
I will go as far as to say that the UK rap scene has for the first time ever been able to hold a candle against the American scene. Quality is getting much better and some of these London boys came from nothing in the high rise flats in the London suburbs. It reminds me of how hard the the prominent 90's rap scene developed out of Compton. The is a somewhat similar vibe to this in London and Birmingham. This kids has nothing growing up as like their American counterparts. Had to deal with racism on a daily basis as like their American counterparts and there is a whole similar situation in London as there was in LA back in the 80s and 90s.
But there is something really unique about UK rap. The backing tracks are unique to their area. They are more gritty. There is not some famous producer mulling over them. They are more raw. The lyrics are pretty much the same in US rap.
I have a big dick and lots of money. Blah blah blah .
I get the best girl blah blah blah.
She's gives me great at blowies in my S Class Mercedes Maybach blah blah blah.
I have a big gun and I will cap your ass if you don't give me my drug money blah blah blah
Same old insecure shite that all rappers come out with.
I have 20 rolex's but I don't care blah blah blah.
I find the UK rappers go into a bit more of the gritty details around the shagging and the drugs but I'm more looking for a beat to run to rather than knowing about the rappers anal sex fetish.
Anyway enough about slagging it off. I am always open to listen to new genres that have some kind of melody. I still refuse the shouty heavy metal stuff but UK rap I found is quite good actually. Here are some songs I quite liked in the GYM last night. A couple of which are from a guy called Dave. I can deal with liking a rapper called Dave. I like this rap name. I hope this catches on. Hopefully in a few years a famous rapper called Nigel will be born , or Gary or maybe even Trevor.
Stormzy Shut Up
Stormzy was the first British rapper to really break the mould and bring UK rap worldwide. He is like the Dr Dre or the Ice T of UK rap. He's the godfather. He's contempory rapping going on about Tweets , Instagram and of course the usual big mickey , nicest girlfriend and biggest gun is a stableford of his rapping.
Here a later song. Stormzy has got better. Nice aul beat to this one. Again the rapping is excellent. The usual stuff again but its quite catchy. What I like about the UK rap is that I kinda know what they are on about. They mention Alan Sugar and Jeremy Corbyn.
Dave - Clash
So the pretender to the throne is Dave who I really like by the way. His raps are catchy, Here he is with the main man Stormzy but I have been listening to quite a bit of Dave now and I am liking him. Dave is huge with 100 million Youtube hits.

Here is Dave bringing a fan up on stage at Glastonbury to rap with him. The fan was nearly as good as his idol

So in summary these songs are great to run to especially high tempo runs as the beats are really fast. Now this genre is nowhere near the top of my list but there's a place for it. It is not as bad as I thought. I added a few of these ones to my running play list and I have a new found respect for Stormzy and Dave.
Thanks to @ablaze for giving me something to write about that I am interested in on a Tuesday.
Nice, I like a bit of Stormzy. You should check out little Simz as well.
I'm not a fan of all that more modern being rap either xxx
How is Aislinn keeping. I'm heading down to your neck of the woods Saturday . Mallorca . I hear the weather is crap. FML
Alex the little legend in that last video with Dave, he was killing it, fair dues to him, some balls and he delivered. Stormzy is decent in fairness, the UK Rap has really come on a lot.
Although Roots Manuva are at it for a long time, had a great album of theres back in the day that I listened to a lot..
Hmmm, I'll have to do a Roots Manuva post soon, thanks for idea..
