Pamela Rose Grant
OK so I started here a few weeks ago - and promised to post vids of me playing! I recorded most of these in the long dark days of covid, stuck at home (with the wife, the kids, and two cats) I got bored so recorded lots! Therefore .... I thought I would post one a week (when I get the chance) and in the hopes that someone might find them interesting. Please tell me to clear off if I have miss-tagged any group.
Pamela Rose Grant is a lovely old Scottish dance tune (it's supposed to be a strathspey but I don't really do that). The wonderful guitarist Tony McManus does a lovely version with the fiddle player, Alasdair Fraser, who is listed as having written it. Mine is alas short of their perfection 🙂
The strathspey is a very traditional Scottish dance form and is great fun to play, slightly jerky at first, once you have the pattern down it is a lovely style. Hope it's OK to post the following video from Youtube, I can't do the dance but these folk can! This is the "New Haven Highland Ball 2008 - Dance : The Wishing Well. Ball is run by the New Haven, Connecticut branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society" posted by user leesdg.
Strathspey is also a rather lovely region in Scotland, as well as a type of whisky (hmm I must do a blog on whisky sometime - after suitable research!)
