Vinyl treasures
Hi everyone! I'm not exactly new to HIVE, but this is my first time writing in Hive Collectors community, so let me introduce myself real quick. I'm Bojana, almost wrote bibana xD, I got so used to that nickname that it even feels kind of legit to have it in my ID.
Recently I shared my first collectors blog about sugar packets on my page, not even knowing that this community existed for quite some time already, thanks to the lovely mipiano! So now I'm fixing that mistake with a new topic → vinyls. Couldn't be better one for my first post here, perfectoo!

I live in Serbia, a small half hilly country in the center of Balkans full of stubborn people. :) Many of us are nostalgic by nature, from the day we are born, so we tend to hold on to things and keep all kinds of objects, little stuff... Which is actually very nice, if you have enough space and if it doesn't turn into hoarding. Although, that's also something pretty common in our families, so no wonder younger people today want only and exclusively minimalism in their homes. I totally get that. I'm somewhere in between. I try not to have useless mess around, I like to throw away or give away things I don't use and know I probably won't in the future, but I also love having space for meaningful things, something that matters and will always have value → like records and books... Vinyls are actually some kind of books about music. And honestly, the only books I read, hihi.
They have written proof of their creators, the year marked somewhere, sometimes even lyrics, nice covers, photos, everything! All in one, a pure ART!

All these vinyls are now in my great-grandma's old house on our family land, where we often like to go, have some coffee, tide up a bit, enjoy the nature and let our dog Maza happily run around. An old Schneider gramophone is also there. It used to be part of the whole Sneider's music setup in our living room when I was child; now just waiting for one of us to finally remember to make a little vinyl corner and enjoy the magic!
Look at this photo, it's a mix of different genres and languages. Disco, pop, classic rock, RnB, soul, blues, pop-rock, even Serbian folk. Ofra Haza, Spandau Ballet, Queen, Peter Gabriel, The Culture Club, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Cyndi Lauper, The B-52s, Kate Bush, Europe, Boney M, Ultravox, Falco (I loooove Falco!)... these are just some of the names that randomly comes my mind right now.
Here's an interesting little pinky collection. I mixed the unmixable. Kate Bush and Lepa Brena, so what? xD
Their covers match perfectly, all four of them look like one inseparable set (set of chaos xD).

Speaking of interesting things, I always laugh a lot when I go through the records and after Metallica I suddenly run into Vesna Zmijanac. Although, to be fair, there is a similarity... they all had those same fluffy curly hairstyles back then, ahahah. Right?
I remember, when the record player was still installed upstairs in our house, I loooooved playing with vinyls and switching the speed from 33 to 45 (if I remember the numbers corectly). I know that was supposed to be changed when you put a single instead of an LP, but I was a kid and it was ooso fun when song goes like "ksafjfdlsadakdjsfalgladnadad" 🎶🎵. :D
Here's one, actually one third of it and me trying to wave at you through it, but of course you can't see me clearly because it's all covered in dust, ooops. That's why I'm jealous of how well all of you take care of yours:
nicely arranged, protected, just the way records deserve to be!

Some examples or ROCK for all the Yugo-nostalgic souls here if there are any :D (I really hope there are!). EKV, Parni Valjak, Bijelo Dugme… and all those songs on them that are true evergreens.

I saved the sweetest part for the end. Of all these records, my favorites are Yazoo and this one by Alvin Lee. I didn’t know or listen to either of them before, until that one day when I was going through these vinyls and the covers caught my eye first (what can I say, I'm a visual type). Back then record player was already gone from the house and the internet and YouTube had completely taken over, so I typed them in to hear what they sounded like and I was instantly hooked on both! The Bluest Blues by Lee and Don't Go by Yazoo completely won my heart. I got obsessed with those two and kept playing them on repeat - a bit of blues, a bit of synth pop, again and again and again...
Ignore my silly face here, pleasee, focus on cool cover(s). 💗

Great collection! Keep it, for future generations 🙂
Vesna Zmijanac was as popular in these areas as Metallica in the USA 🙂
You know that in this track she mentions Maza, the name you call your dog?
Haa, didn't know this song earlier what a coincidence. Vesna was rocking it, with or without Metallica hairstyle 😅
You're probably not a fan of that kind of music, but Vesna's repertoire was superb in those years.
I prefer male voices in our folk songs 🎤🕺
I have/had Ultravox tape and EKV tape!

Oh, yeah! Today is the vinyl records day!!! 🥳 At least here in the Hive Collectors community. Btw, welcome to the community, I am happy to see your post with this great and diverse collection you have! Haha, Metallica and Vesna Zmijanac, or Lepa Lukic connection 🤣, well, apart the fluffy, curly hairstyles they also have another thing in common - they all form part of this collection, which I am grateful to see here today. Thank you for your contribution, @bibana 😇
Thank you so much, mipiano, I am so glad you like it. Thanks for the lovely welcome too 🤗 Once again this is such a great topic! I'm thinking about making a few more blogs about previous collections ☺️
You are very welcome to post about any collection you have, or from the list! It will be a pleasure to read about them from you! 😉
In England we have a joke about buses never turning up on time, and and when they do come, they come in threes 😁
Hello @bibana, what a great collection of vinyls and what a cool way to tell your experience with them. Yazoo and Alvin Lee are two great choices.
I'm glad this was your introduction to the community.
A very big greeting from Spain.
Thank you so much! Your blog about vinyls is also awesome, I checked it out yesterday, really nice! Sending greetings back from Serbia 🤗
Greetings again from here. I love that you liked the post.
I hope you had a great day and enjoy what's left of it. 🤗
A huge collection of vinyl records, all the memories they hold, and the history behind them, and best of all, various musical genres in different languages—now that's musical variety haha so cool! 😍
Glad you liked it. Thank you a loot. 🤗
That's a great eclectic collection of vinyls! You have a bit of everything. The Bijeli Dugme cover caught my eye, I thought it was some communist propaganda shit from your grand parents days until I googled them
And I love your analogy that vinyls are books about music, it's a great one.
Well, bit of this bit of that.. Communism based Yugoslavia and wars that would be just a few years after this album (1986). And our great musicians from this region skillfully woving it into their songs or even entire albums.
There are a lot of pain in our not so long time ago history but people are mostly positively nostalgic about previous times, especially when it comes to music. Ex-Yu music is 😍
Ex-Yu music... I learnt another term today
That is an interesting vinyl collection... What brings attention is a completely different genre of music, so I suppose you weren't the only one who collected all these? I bet other family members also contributed to this collection.
Thanks for sharing!

Actually I didnt buy a single one myself :) all of them are from the time when my parents were young, even before they met. I think my father bought most of these and we also have more of them at my mothers parents house, mostly harder rock... they used to play them at café they owned back then. 🥰
Also, some of these came in bundles. They would buy the whole pack at a good price because of one or two they actually listened to and then ended up with a bunch of others. That's the main reason how these mixes happened 😅
edit: forgot to say thank youu for sharing 🤗
Thank you so much, aaand sorry for the pain I caused with that group photo. 🫣 I believe you when you say it, especially coming from someone who is a true vinyl lover and like you. The worst part is that half of them were stored upright, but "smart" me 😆 decided to rearrange them horizontally the other day after taking the photos. They are now in three separate groups but still, each one is still big.
Have to go and fix it, thank you so much for pointing it out. Sending you a big warm greeting 🤗
Have a great weekend! Best regards.
Thankk you so much. You, too. 🤗💯
Hi @bibana, it's so nice to read your first post in this lovely community! Thank you for showing us the variety of vinyl records that are now at your great-grandmother's house, contributing their history to the warmth and good vibes of that family home.
Looking at your photos, I notice there are more than 35 records stacked horizontally. They shouldn't be stored like that, not even for a photo, haha 😂. Even if it doesn't show, they get damaged. The record itself is affected, and its entire structure, from the inner layer to the outer cover. The weight of each record can vary between 40 and 180 grams, depending on its size and the pressing. So you can imagine the weight the record at the bottom is supporting. Add to that the weight of atmospheric pressure, which affects us all, and which at sea level is 1 atmosphere.
They should be stored vertically, in a well-ventilated place, without extreme temperatures or high humidity. They also shouldn't be too close together, as that would make them difficult to remove. They need space to breathe wherever they're placed, because, like a book, they hold a musical legacy, a story, and an artistry in their design. Thanks for sharing, cheers! 👋
P.S: Sorry, I commented in Spanish before, and not in English, since the post was written only in that language.
Hey, no problem, I transleted it and reply there. Once again thaanks! 😊
