Use your illusion - drawn with an old trackball mouse

One day in 1992 i was at some cousins' house in Quito-Ecuador. I had gone for the week, and we were all between 10 and 14 years old. We were at home that day because it was very cold outside, so we snuck into the office to turn on the computer with the intention of playing something.
The PC was an IBM running Windows 3.1 with basic software, meaning it only had the solitaire game. So, just opened Paintbrush and draw some pixels using the mouse. Then I decided to check out my Guns and Roses Use your illusion II cassette and started drawing the silhouette of the guy writing in a book. Much later, I discovered it was part of Raphael's "The School of Athens." Im a big GNR fan.

The mouse at that time had a ball mechanism, which didn't help much with movement, so I opened it up and cleaned it thoroughly. Even so, that type of mouse was very imprecise compared to today's.
I was quite pleased with the result, and my cousins ​​were surprised by the fact that it took me a little over an hour and how similar my drawing was to the original.
Then I printed it on an Epson dot matrix printer, the kind used at that time.

I think if someone tried to do that today, with all the internet and AI, they'd probably think they were crazy or something.
This is the first time i publish this drawing, and makes me think about how things change over time and that skills are also lost or changed, although I don't know if for the better.

I still have the physical copy of the drawing and the original Illusion II cassette, which I plan to write a post about later.

Un día de 1992, estaba en casa de unos primos en Quito, Ecuador. Había ido por una semana, y todos teníamos entre 10 y 14 años. Estábamos en casa ese día porque hacía mucho frío afuera, así que nos colamos en la oficina para encender la computadora con la intención de jugar a algo. La computadora era una IBM con Windows 3.1 y software básico, lo que significa que solo tenía el solitario. Así que abrí Paintbrush y dibujé algunos píxeles con el ratón. Luego decidí revisar mi casete de Guns and Roses use your illusion II y comencé a dibujar la silueta del tipo que escribía en un libro. Mucho después, descubrí que formaba parte de "La Escuela de Atenas" de Rafael. Soy un gran fan de GNR.

El ratón de aquella época tenía un mecanismo de bola, que no ayudaba mucho con el movimiento, así que lo abrí y lo limpié a fondo. Aun así, ese tipo de ratón era muy impreciso comparado con el de hoy.
Quedé bastante satisfecho con el resultado, y mis primos se sorprendieron de que me llevara poco más de una hora y de lo parecido que era mi dibujo al original.
Luego lo imprimí en una impresora matricial Epson, de las que se usaban en aquella época.

Creo que si alguien intentara hacer eso hoy, con todo internet y la inteligencia artificial, probablemente pensaría que está loco o algo así.
Esta es la primera vez que publico este dibujo, y me hace pensar en cómo las cosas cambian con el tiempo y en que las habilidades también se pierden o se modifican, aunque no sé si para mejor.

Todavía conservo la copia física del dibujo y el casete original de Illusion II, sobre el que pienso escribir una entrada más adelante.
