Kicking off this week for round two of the festival, I'm proud to come here saying this is one of the songs I listened to for a week and got to figure out how to play it. It isn't anything fancy, but it feels like a big step to the right direction.

There's this whole genre of music that's tied with work. In this side the country they are called Puntos. And there are many kind of Puntos according to the geography of the terrain and the references they make. The one I'm playing here is Punto de Navegante. It is one of the songs that are sung by fishers and fishers wives during their wait and work.

It is generally a sad type of music that talks about the longing for those who depart to the sea and asking when they shall come back. Puntos are an interesting subject matter. They are always the same musically. Their melodies and harmonies do not change. Lyrics do since each Punto tends to be a personal composition very similar to Tonadas in the plains. They are usually on a 3/4 compass. In this regard, they are quite similar to Malagueñas. Their lyrics make references to lots of topics such as love, death, departures, life, work, and others.

Punto del Navegante

Comenzamos esta segunda semana del festival con una canción que orgullosamente puedo decir que escuché por una semana y encontré la manera de tocarla. No es nada muy rebuscado, pero se siente como un paso grande hacia la dirección correcta.

Existe un género musical bastante interesante de canciones que están relacionadas con el trabajo. En estos lados del país, se les conoce como Puntos. Hay muchos tipos de Puntos. Su nombre sus cambiar de acuerdo a la geografía del lugar en donde se presentan. El que interpreto en el video es un Punto de Navegante. Es uno de los cantos de faena de los pescadores y sus esposas.

Suele ser una composición bastante triste que habla sobre la añoranza hacia aquellos que salen al mar para trabajar y busca la respuesta sobre cuándo regresarán. Siempre tienen el mismo patrón musical. Su melodía y armonía son fijas. Lo que cambia de un Punto a otro es la letra. Esto ocurre porque los puntos son canciones personales. Es algo muy parecido a los cantos de ordeño de los llanos, esos llamados Tonadas. Comparten con algunas Tonadas el compás a 3/4. Aunque, el ritmo es una cosa bastante diferente a los otros compases a 3 de la música tradicional. Guardan una relación estrecha con las Malagueñas en este sentido. Y en ellos se suelen tratar muchos tipos de temas. Vivencias, la vida y sus penurias, el amor, la muerte, la partida, entre otros.

Creo que no me queda más que agregar sobre el tema.
