We are back on the stage of the Hive Music Festival for its 42nd week, round 3. Today, we are back on Brazil for another traditional song. This time is a Samba by composer Noel Rosa known as Feitiço Da Vila.

I must have listened to this a thousand times when I started playing mandolin, but never got to actually play. Just knew some fragments. It is simple song, but again, the harmony is the part that causes troubles. However, it was a lot of fun to learn it. I guess it's a blessing to have such a good teacher. When I came back after learning the whole melody, I got some other tips to play. So, I decided to get it at a slow tempo since the song is actually slow. Not all Sambas are very fast and carry lots of drums. It is more of a intimate song. And you can see this reflected on the myriad of versions available online. Some of them even move it to other genres such as Choro and Bossa Nova.

This is a simple version playing with the tempo. After all, I'm playing by myself and the tempo is there to keep the sense of the song. But it cam be bent to my will if I choose to do it.

I don't have a lot of things to say about the cover. I hope you enjoy as much as I did recording it. It was one of those rare cases in which even when I didn't got it done at first, I didn't get angry or had frustration build up as a result of mistakes. And the final recording, the one you listened came as smooth as possible.

Estamos de regreso en el Hive Music Festival para la semana 42, ronda 3. En esta oportunidad, volvemos a Brasil para escuchar un cover de otro género tradicional muy popular: la samba. La cación de esta semana es Feitiço Da Vila del compositor Noel Rosa.

Esta es una de esas canciones que debo haber escuchado más de mil veces mientras aprendía a tocar la mandolina, pero nunca llegué a tocarla. Solo me sabía algunos fragmentos. La melodía es bastante simple, pero como es común con la música brasileira, la harmonía es todo un reto. Sin embargo, fue muy interesante aprenderla. Es una bendición tener un profesor tan bueno. Cuando volví con una parte aprendida, recibí muchos consejos de cómo tocar la pieza. Así que decidí quedarme con el tiempo lento de la versión original. No todas las sambas son rápidas o van cargadas de percusión. Al menos, las canciones tan íntimas como esta no son así. Algo de esto se ve reflejado en la cantidad asombrasa de versión que existen en la web. Algunas de ellas transportan la pieza a géneros como el Choro y la Bossa Nova.

Este cover es bastante simple. Decidí jugar con el tempo mientras tocaba. Después de todo, estoy haciendo un solo y el tempo está como un recurso más para lograr la interpretación deseada. Así que jugar un poco con esto es parte de mi versión.

No tengo mucho más para agregar de este cover. Espero que lo disfruten tanto como yo lo hice al grabarlo. Este fue uno de esos casos raros donde las equivocaciones frente a la cámara no resultaron en frustración. Cada vez que volvía a grabar las cosas mejoraban hasta que llegué a esta versión final.
