I think I'll start adding some stars to my thumbnail according to the number of times I've won the instrumental version of the Hive Music Festival. But that will come later. A new cycle of rounds is a brand new opportunity to share some interesting music. Since we are in the times of Christmas and adding the fact that November 18th just went around, we're officially in Gaita Season around the rest of Venezuela.

I brought one of the Gaitas that had an added benefit. It was one of the most amazing marketing campaigns for a place in Maracaibo. Composed by Arcadio Martínez, who hasn't heard the theme "Pa' Que Luis". This Gaita refers to an actual place in Maracaibo where people gather to drink mostly, but it's also a place shared by people in the city for rehearsals of Gaita Groups.

As you might have guessed Gaitas are a very serious thing in Maracaibo and the rest of Zulia State. It is a tough genre to play as it exploits a lot of the percussive nature of the Venezuelan Cuatro. However, it is also something that uplifts your spirits while listening. There are several types of Gaita. The most famous are "Gaita de Furro" and "Gaita de Tambora". They both have big rhythmic differences. This one belongs to the former.

Also, they can be divided by topics, but that's an entire realm of discussion. You can listen to the original recording here. This theme was popularized by the group Gaiteros de Pillopo in 1987 and has become a staple of its own genre.

Creo que empezaré a añadirle estrellas a mi portada de acuerdo a las veces que haya ganado la versión instrumental del Hive Music Festival. Aunque eso vendrá mucho después. Se abre un ciclo nuevo de rondas y eso es otra oportinidad de seguir trayendo música interesante. Aprovechando la época navideña y que ya pasamos el 18 de noviembre, nos adentramos en la temporada gaitera en el resto del país.

Traje una de las gaitas más interesantes que exiten. Esta funcionó como una especie de campaña de marketing para un negocio en Maracaibo. Compuesta por Arcadio Martínez en 1987 y popularizada por el grupo Gaiteros de Pillopo, ¿quién no ha escuchado la gaita "Pa' Que Luis"? La misma hace referencia a un local en Santa Lucía donde la gente se reune a consumir alcohol, pero que también se presta como sitio de ensayo a las agrupaciones de gaita en la ciudad.

Como seguro ya lo adivinaron, las gaitas son algo serio en Maracaibo y el resto del estado Zulia. Es un ritmo bien complejo que explota las características percusivas del cuatro venezolano. Sin embargo, es uno de los géneros de música venezolana que más levanta los ánimos al escucharla. Existen varios tipos de gaitas. Las más famosas son la "gaita de furro" y la "gaita de tambora". Ambas tienen características rítmicas muy diferentes. "Pa' Que Luis" pertenece al primer tipo.

Además, se pueden dividir en grupos de acuerdo a los temas que se manejan en cada tema. Aunque eso daría para una publicación completa. Pueden escuchar la versión original aquí.
