It's been quite a long time since I took part of an #openmic. I was in some study rest from cover. Also, had the time to finish two instruments. I'm playing one of them in this video. Long story short, I've been busy.

Today, I'm coming to share a simple cover. This music is a traditional heritage genre. It exists in different countries that were former Spanish colonies and they have given it their own identity. I'm talking about Malagueñas.

I've been wanting to play one of these for a long time and thanks to my teacher I'm doing it. That syncs perfectly with the theme for this week, gratitude. Since this is the first community were I started to publish videos, gratitude comes double by sharing this one here.

I think I never this one before I had the chance to learn it. I don't even know the lyrics too well, but I found this version so you can listen to it By the way, listen to the sad feeling on this song. It is almost all achieved in Major chords! It is amazing. This goes against these intuitive idea that major is happy and minor is sad.

In Venezuela, Malaqueñas are tied to the sea. These are songs traditionally sung by women. They carry a feeling of longing for something. It could be love, the sea, work, better times, anything that could make you cry.

Hope you enjoy my cover. I added some sound effects on the background to have the sea in the song. Since these are usually sea-born songs, you can tell the rhythm of waves syncs perfectly with the strumming style. Now, I think the whole strumming is the way it is because it mimics sea waves.

Ya ha pasado un rato desde que participé en un #openmic. Estaba en un descanso de estudio, También terminé dos instrumentos. Uno de ellos es este que estoy tocando. Para resumir, he estado ocupado.

Hoy, les vengo a compartir este cover sencillo. Esta música es un género heredado. Existe en varias de las antiguas colonias españolas y cada una le da dado un sentido de identidad diferente. Estoy hablando de la Malagueña.

He querido aprenderme una de estas desde hace mucho tiempo. Hoy, gracias a mi profesor es posible. Esto cae perfecto con el tema de la semana: gratitud. Así que va por partida doble. Ya que la gratitud va también para esta comunidad donde compartí mis primeros covers.

Creo que nunca había escuchado esta malagueña en específico y no sé quien es el autor de la letra. Cosa curiosa, tampoco me sé bien la letra, pero aquí encontré una versión para que las escuchen. Y más curioso aún, esta canción es muy triste y la mayoría de su armonía son acordes mayores. Esto es un buen ejemplo de que esa idea de mayor es alegra y menor es triste no tiene mucho sentido.

En Venezuela, las Malgueñas guardan una relación estrecha con el mar. Tradicionalmente, son cantadas por mujeres. Aquí se expresan sentimientos de añoranza. Pueden ser sobre el amor y el desamor, el trabajo, recuerdos, en general, cualquier cosa que podría hacerte llorar.

Espero que disfruten de este cover. Le añadí algunos efectos de sonido para que escuchen el mar al fondo. Como estas canciones nacen a las orillas del mar, el ritmo de las olas va sincronizado al golpe. Esto me hace pensar que el ritmo de este género y otros que surgen en geografías similares imita el vaivén del oleaje.
