HIve Music Festival | Week 112, Round 1 | "El Gallo" (Venezuelan Folk Cover)

Missed me? I did miss recording my covers for this festival, but we are back after some much deserved vacations regarding the musical thingy. I wasn't loafing around. There are some thing I've come to show during this new cycle of participations. Since we are on the eve of Christmas, it was time to start with of the traditional music of the season.

And we're setting the bar with this Aguinaldo, El Gallo (the rooster). It is a traditional piece from my hometown's folklore. This is a fancy way of saying that people forgot who composed the song and it just became part of the traditions of December. I have listened to this many times on the radio and other places. It was a popular piece for choral music. One of my favorite renditions of the song comes by the epitome of choral music, Quinteto Contrapunto

As I have said before there are differences between those songs that talk about Christ or religious themes and songs, like this one, that are all about some that happens in the daily life of people.

In regard to the performance of the song, it is a really simple one. The melody follows almost a straight line when it goes up and down. In the harmony department, the chords follow a tonal arrangement and this gives easy to find a chord melody without too much trouble.

To add another level of technique, I wanted to close with a different pattern for strumming and change the usual muting of the strings with percussion of the strum guard of my Venezuelan Cuatro. This technique is kind of hard, but with a bit of practice it can be mastered.
