Hive Music Festival | Week 100 round 1 | "Besos en mis Sueños" by Augusto Brandt

Happy 100th week of the Hive Music Festival. We're so close to the second year anniversary! To start this week, I've come with an odd choice of song. Is there any song you know but haven't actually heard? It is weird, but that's exactly what happened with my choice. It wasn't mine actually. As it so happens it became the topic for the class of this week.

Besos en mis Sueños is a waltz by Venzuelan composer Augusto Brandt. This musician had a quite interesting life. During his childhood he was so good at playing the violin that the Brazilian Ambassador of the time, Luis Lorena Ferreira, took him in to sponsor his talents. Talk about an event to bolster the artistic life of a person. Most of us would like to have a sponsor to keep on our path in art.

His compositions follow a classic pattern. And his works are a really nice approach for newer musician to understand the general patterns of music reading. No doubt this waltz is beautiful like most love songs. I'll make sure to add more version of it down below so you can check different performances. Even when the melody is quite simple, the jumps it makes for octaves and other notes are somewhat challenging to play in the Venezuelan Cuatro. But, what's life without some difficult problems to tackle? It is a nice thing to finally know this song. As far as I was concerned, it was the kind of piece I always heard about but never listened to the actual song.
