It was a bit of a funny observation a little while back from one of our kids... they asked, are you always paid in flowers, chocolate, and wine?

As a musician, you are often gifted a bottle of something if you are the guest leader or the soloist... well, usually if you are male... if you are female, you often get flowers instead which really sucks! On the other hand, I've also received flowers in the past as well, and it isn't so bad... but when other people on stage are getting bottles of wine or something like that, it must suck to get a bunch of flowers instead!

... and when you have an end of term/year studio concert, many of the parents will bring gifts as well! Flowers, chocolates, gift baskets! Its really quite nice! Which is what led to the question from one of our kids when my wife came home with this haul of goodies (with more still in the car!).

... but sadly, being a musician... well, we still exist in a society where we also still need to be paid in money! The gifts are great... but flowers don't fill the tummy, and there is only so much booze I can drink (not much... I'm little...) before I will pass out! Chocolates... well, I could eat that all day... but as I get older, it starts to be less of a good idea!

So, money it is!

... but still, it doesn't hurt to have a few bottles of something nice to round out the liquor cabinet!
