Fried Brain!!!

Oh wow... it has been a fortnight since my last post! I think that that is the longest that I've been away from Hive... and I had a good reason, and no, it isn't because the crypto market is getting slaughtered!

My wife and I have been heads down doing the administration and logistics for a festival that took place at the end of May... two days of workshops, playing, dance, and stuff stuff stuff... and as a small arts organisation... well, we don't waste money on additional staff.... we do it all ourselves!

So, lots of things to write for grants and joint ventures... getting all the music and transcriptions ready... publicity... backend organisation, and ticketing, and fielding enquiries... all completely occupying our free (and not free time...) whilst juggling kids, family life, and the regular freelancer musician schedules as well!

... and we DID IT! It was crazily exhausting... but we made it out the other with most of our thinking abilities still intact! Of course... to requests from participants that we do it all again next year... and when is it happening again?

... but we had to turn out thoughts immediately to dealing with with our main chamber and children's concert series the following weekend! So, straight back down into the organisation and rehearsing for that... thankfully, it is more music-making related than administrative and logistics related... but even still, it is quite a bit of headspace required!

And we managed to complete that as well... and we got two very very nice reviews, including our second "national" review! With one of our largest audience sizes... and really nice feedback from guest artists and audience members!

So, feeling a really nice glow from both the weekends... and that leads us to this week... where I rejoin a different group as a regular musician freelancer... just playing the notes and doing music stuff... no organisation, no founder demands on time...

... and that means I have time to WRAP the previous weeks... finances, grant acquittals, administrative wrap ups... writing to thank doners and all of that. But... I can always scrounge a bit of time to revisit Hive as well!

... and here I am... writing to clear my brain a bit! Even if I feel like I need to collapse, get sick, and sleep for the next month!

... ah, the mixed joys of being a small arts organisation founder! But it is the passion project for me and my wife, and there are rewards that can't be described in terms of money! And together, I think we have found one of our reasons for existence!

If you're enjoying even the slightly less desirable/enjoyable aspects of it then all well and good, otherwise maybe consider hiring someone to cover the bits that you find harder/don't enjoy as much XD If you have the budget for it of course. It was one of the things that ended up making me quit my business way back when (I hated the business side of running the business so much I ended up just dreading anything at all to do with the business and then neitehr of us wanted to go all in with it which was the other thing that we had to do).

It sounds like everything is going awesome :D
