Hugs & Farewells.

This time tomorrow I'm in Guayaquil, and in 26h on a flight to Germany. If everything goes well, bureaucracy has its weird way here... I had to change the permit to leave the country again, as the flight number had changed due to a new schedule. And then, Friday, Lily slipped in school and got a big cut next to her eye from the fall. 3 stitches. I guess I'm burning Karma right now so the rest of the journey will be easy going.

Just stumbled upon a song from The Cat Empire that I didn't know yet. The original is pretty cool, but the Live version at the Sydney Opera House has a special charm to it.

I had made a post about me being away, because my administrator will be down for the month of December, too - foot surgery. He'll still be managing and doing all the administrative stuff, and the rest of the crew has improved a lot in the last 6 months, so I hope they'll be fine without us - but just in case, I warned everyone that mistakes might happen, and asked for comprehension and cooperation with that.

Mi friend Brenda is going to represent #ecuador at the Viña del Mar Festival 2026! In the category Folklore, which fits perfectly. It's such an awesome thing that she's able to do that! The video for this song was made in Cotacachi, where I live.

When I ran around town today, many people said goodbye to me. I got many hugs and well wishes - even from my gardener. And from the bicycle transport guy, Freddy. It's not usual for men to hug here, but I always ignored that and hugged my friends anyway - and apparently that is common knowledge, as both Jesús and Freddy gave me big hugs.

It's awesome to feel the community like that.

Yesterday we had a new guy coming to the Jamsession. He wants to help organizing the sessions while I'm away, which is pretty cool. He brought a lot of new songs, a mix of older and modern ones, and we had a blast playing. One of them was this gem - though the music videos is one of the worst I've seen. Reminds me of Windows Media Player back in the days...

So far! I hope you'll all have a wonderful weekend!

Not this time! Though I might take you up in that one day... We'll stay with family in the high North, Hamburg is probably the farthest south that we'll go :-D

Sad, bad also perfect. You'll find a Stoertebeker Atlantic Ale everywhere in that area. 🍻
Again, have a safe flight and enjoy the time with the family.

Wasn't Störtebecker from Stralsund? I went to the Störtebecker Festspiele once, and I think it was around there - my godfather has a huge agriculture farm there.

Exactly, Stralsund.
Ich hab's beim Ostseeurlaub kennen und lieben gelernt. Leider sehr teuer. Aber unfassbar lecker.

I recognized the city in your opening sentence because I have a good lot of Ecuadorean students enrolled at the public school I teach at in Brooklyn, NY. In fact, more and more Ecuadoreans seem to be settling down in our Bushwick and Ridgewood neighborhoods, which I am very thankful for. I love the bright yellow jerseys and flavorful fish stews all over our street corners. And of course, even better that most of them are now Chelsea FC supporters following the football prodigy Moises Caicedo. I'll be pulling for La Tri next year in the world cup for sure!

Well Ecuador aside, safe travels and enjoy the music!

Thank you! I definitely will :-) The Tri is in one group with Germany, which adds an extra stake between me and my football watching friends here :-D

I think it will come down to that big game btwn Ecuador and Cote D'Ivoire. My favorite South American national team against my favorite African national team.

That'll be fun to watch, too! They'll probably put up all the matches that Ecuador plays here, and I'll see if I can find a place for the German ones. Or just stream myself.

Vielen Dank!
