The first on my list is face me I face you sang by the Cross River state born singer, Sunny Nneji. The song was released in 2003 (21years ago) and it was a hit song back in the day. One reason this song rocked back then was because of the beats and the lyrics which was like a form of advice to listeners that there's always another day to fight and not all fights would be fought in a day.

He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

Daddy mo by Olie gee

Next is daddy mo by Olie Gee. I tell you guys this was the reigning romantic song for lovers back then. The song was released in the year 2001, with it's beats and vibes, this song will definitely get you tapping your feet and whining that waist. The song was sang in Igbo dialect but that did not hinder the flow and the vibes. A danceable beat is what graces your ears immediately the song is played plus the sonorous voices of the singers just blend to make the song a jam.

Mr Fantastic by Sunny Nneji

We are back to Sunny Nneji's tunes and this one is also on the romantic side. The song tells a story of a pretty lady getting lost and was found or claimed by Sunny Nneji. Soon a romantic relationship blooms between them, they have a hasty wedding and sometime later, it's baby time hehe.

In all sincerity, after listening and watching these songs on #Youtube recently, I could not help but shake my head on what our music looked and sounded like two decades ago. The transformation that Nigerian music has taken over the years is worthy of applause but I also cannot overlook the fact that without these founding artistes, we would not get to where we are now music wise. So regardless of how the songs might sound now, they were the foundation of naija music.
