Under the stars

Sometimes I'm afraid of the dark and avoid putting myself into situations where I'm alone at night; it's not altogether safe for a girl to be out and about alone at night, and I don't really want to be either, I'd much rather be with someone...and that someone is my guy who is not at all afraid of the dark.

My guy calls the dark, his friend, maybe he's a ninja, and he feels comfortable at night whether it's in the city or way out in the countryside and his confidence makes me feel confident too. A couple weekends ago we felt the need for some space, to be away from the city and the routine of our daily lives but a weekend getaway was not possible so we decided on the next best thing...the dark.

I took this image myself

We found ourselves on a property almost 45 miles away from any towns and the lights they produce. We arrived in the late afternoon, unloaded the firewood we'd brought and went about organising a fire pit which we'd cook some food on, brew coffee and then sit beside, huddled together in blankets for the evening. As the fire burned low, its comforting crackling lulling us, we snuggled into our blankets and laid there both looking up towards the sky and the thousands of stars up there twinkling away as stars often do.

We remained silent for a while, counted shooting stars and then...well, I think I'll not continue that part of the story here, it's private.

It was a moment we both needed, time away from the pressures of life that, no matter how hard we try to avoid it, weigh on us sometimes. We needed the space away from everyone else, to see the sky drain of colour as we watched, the smell of wood smoke as it rose on hot air and those twinkly stars that popped out in the darkness shimmering and glittering down upon us. We needed to feel small and insignificant in the great universe we live in...and to feel like the only people on the planet. It was a beautiful night and the remembrance of it makes me smile.

I was thinking about it earlier today and decided I'd share some music with stars as the theme, which you can find below. I don't know if other people place as much importance small moments like that night by the fire under the canopy of stars, and it doesn't matter anyway, it's important and beautiful to us and I could think of no better man to share that beauty with than my guy.

A Sky Full of Stars - Coldplay

Falling Like The Stars - James Arthur

Until the stars go out - James Morrison

What beautiful songs! All three are beautiful, so much so that it is impossible to choose, all wonderful.

Those special, private, necessary moments are beautiful and unique. I love the stars, the night and more so the moon. I love it!

I'm not a fan of darkness either for various reasons, but every day I get along better with it.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful songs. Thank you Becca ❤️

I went to the beach, but there was medusas.... complicated to get into the water... but it relaxed me and helped me to regain strength. Thank you!❤️

medusas

I had to look that up. Jellyfish. I understand, they can be quite problematic. The walk would have been nice though.

Jellyfish are beautiful, although some of them are dangerous, but I love to watch them, they have a very relaxing dance.

The walk was lovely!

Thank you Becca ❤️

when it gets a bit darker here, I think I might create a bit of a fire pit in the garden to roast some marshmallows for us :)

That would be really nice I think, and that little girl of yours would love it. Do you have restrictions on lighting fires at particular times of the year?

Your guy sounds very special. It is so nice you have someone like him.

Yes, I enjoy small moments like that. Although they don;'t happen as often anymore. Looking to change that soon.

He's a pretty special individual Joe, something that I've been fortunate enough to see in many ways including little things like this night under the stars. He had everything arranged and organised, the food, fire and had thought of every detail and thing I may need to be comfortable. It was a special night.

I hope you get back to such moments yourself because it's those little things that come to mean so much.

That's very special and guess what? It cost almost nothing I am guessing, but will be an abiding memory and something you will do again when the opportunity arises. It's important to get that one on one time without any distractions. Just you both, the stars and nature all around. Good for you, it's really nice to hear about warm heartfelt connections like this. Your song choices perfectly accompany the post, it's the simple things in life that are most precious. People go looking in the wrong places sometimes, and peace, harmony, contentment is right on front of their eyes the whole time away from material items and the like..

You're right, there was little cost but much value.

We do this sometimes when we're not able to go for longer trips, not always fires under the stars, but little things that bring us closer together and to nature; we both find peace in them, and the togetherness.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.

Fantastic, keep that going and you'll both be richer in soul personally for it 👌
