Burnt Arachnid

Years ago, my son was the drummer in a "punk" band - more Alkaline Trio than The Sex Pistols; it was that era. They did ok, got to tour the UK and Europe a few times and play at a number of festivals throughout the continent, including the Leeds and Reading Festival, which was nice as I got complimentary tickets. The reason I mention this, apart from being their driver (until they passed their driving tests) I also used to take photos for them and video their sets. It was a really enjoyable time of my life (although I did feel very old watching the mosh pit and the Wall of Death).

When the guys finally called it a day, I pretty much stopped doing gig photography though it was something I enjoyed and really missed. Most of their crew knew me and I didn't feel so much an interloper. Most of the bands around now are perhaps young enough to be my grandchildren, so it would be a bit odd for me to be in amongst them clicking away.

So when Ellie-Mae, a friend of quite a few years and a model I have worked with lots over the years asked if I would come and take some shots of their first gig I jumped at the chance. They, along with a number of other bands, were playing at a free festival in Lincoln raising money for a couple of local charities. I was a bit gobsmacked by the size of the crowd, apparently there was around 3000 people milling around (there were other activities apart from the bands).

It was good to be there, enjoying the music and taking shots. Their band name is Burnt Arachnid and for the festival they played a wide range of covers including "I Hate Myself for Loving You", "Seven Nation Army" and "Superstition" performed in their own style. I love the ambience of festivals but shooting is pretty straightforward, especially during daylight, and, if I'm honest, the images aren't as "gritty" as those taken in a dirty dive, with bad lighting. But the band were happy with the shots, so at the end of the day, I guess that is all that matters,

About me:

I can mostly be found shooting models, aviation, motorsports and, when I can, wildlife. But I enjoy most aspects of photography. You can find more of my work on the links below.
