RE: Superbritanico - the epitome of British culture for you?

oh man, british culture.
I think if britain sank in to the water, and I had to take something with me, it would be the humour. Perhaps the nuance even. Maybe nuance is the seed from which the humour grows? We are a culture steeped in nuance, capable of producing moments of delicious multilayered subtlety, yet often delivered in such blunt, disaffected terms, both pompous and self-deprecating at once, enveloped in contradiction, bemusing, infuriating and every now and then, just very very funny, in a way that can be difficult to understand sometimes. It is certainly the thing that i miss most when im away and is maybe our most irreplicable quality. I imagine its also what leads to the many unusual and beguiling creative contributions we seem to have made to the arts over the years. We may be a small and at times unpleasantly thorny shrub in the rich garden of humanity, but we bear forth the fruits of nuance, and upon them let ye feast!
So Britain's sinking, yet you conveniently get to pick out a favorite thing and skedaddle? Very suspicious.
Great answer - global culture would be that much poorer without all those thorny contributions, especially the humour. Thank whatever's out there for the humour.
P.S. try not to sink, though :)
maybe i plucked the humour out first, and thats why it sank ;p
Ah yes, the classic case of the man who stole the humour of his entire village, but then realized halfway that meant he alone would have to tell every single joke without running out of breath somehow. Big inhale ahead. Beware sinking isles ;p
