Capsule Wardrobe? Maybe on a smaller scale.
Alright, I know I am guilty as charged, but before the charges get finalized, I have some explanations to do. You see, when it comes to practicing minimalism, I believe I am a pro at it. Still, there are some aspects or should I say a specific aspect in life that makes me rethink the “pro” part of things, and here's why I am guilty.
Being from an African home, my mom has always taught us the act of giving out things that we don't need again or doesn't fit again even when it is very much in good condition and here is where clothes fall in.
As a lady, clothing is one thing that brings out the fashionista spirit in us. We want to wear clothes not just for wearing sake but to look stylish in it. That elegant wear that makes each step you take tells people you are a lady. Wait, I am not talking about trending clothes as I do not fancy wearing clothes that are trendy. I believe and love wearing clothes that make me unique and differentiate me from a lady who just passed by.
Therefore, when it comes to capsule wardrobes, maybe in a smaller case, I am practicing it. I grew up giving out lots of my clothes, which is why I said maybe on a smaller case, I am practicing capsule wardrobe a little.
Though, I love the term capsule wardrobe because I love things in moderate sizes. However, I haven't considered it much, but after my sickness last year, I didn't even need to consider it because my body did the consideration and saw the need to own it without my consent. When I fully recovered from my sickness toward the last 2 months that ended last year, I had to give out a lot of my clothes, even still giving out this year.
Maybe it was the medication like I have been telling myself that made me add a little bit in size to my normal petite figure. My clothes doesn't fit me anymore and being a minimalist, I don't like seeing my space cluttered with clothes I don't wear anymore so, I have given out so much that I am left with very little, well maybe not so little still, if I am to count my trousers, I should have 4 that are for outing while the rest are home wears.
I have added six more new gowns after giving almost all of them out as they don't fit me anymore, and I do have a few jumpsuits also. My small-scale capsule wardrobe is made of 3 bags where I keep my clothing materials.
The first one is my box, then I have another bag where I keep my house clothes, then the last bag where my underwear are and that's it for my capsule wardrobe.
The application of minimalism to my life has checked many habits and the first one is having a clean space because I believe that a clean space helps with positive emotions, relaxes the mind and keeps the brain in good condition especially when there's a calm song to make you inhale and exhale while smiling. The feeling of contentment.
Also, moving around would be better, and there'll be space for a well conditioned air to come in. Breathing in perfectly without choking because of dust or unnecessary smell becomes easy.
This is one thing I learned from my mom when growing up. She can't stay in a place that isn't tidy. You will see her standing up and walking around to keep things well and throwing out some unnecessary baggage as she calls them. She made it easier to embrace the minimalist lifestyle, and I can boldly say that practicing this has also helped with my finances.
Getting things that are needed and maintaining my composure when I feel the need to own something I know deeply that I do not need has become a habit. There was, and there is still self-control in going to the market and only getting what's on the list instead of complicating things.
Also, the practice of minimalism made eating homemade food possible. It became a habit that I prefer eating the food I cooked than going out to get meals.
Minimalism has helped in many ways and I am glad I got to learn and embrace it when I was little because as I grew, its knowledge became broad and I have come to appreciate the whole of it and more of it to come.

I don't know if I could live off a capsule wardrobe but minimalism is still a watch word in my spending.
