How do you lock in?

In this present age attention is a very precious thing, there are lots and lots of things constantly fighting for our attention. We have work, we have loved ones, social media, our entertainment, learning. We need to make time for all of these things and at times it can be difficult especially when we find it hard to focus on one thing at a time. Entertainment tends to be very greedy with attention, trying to take as much of it as possible. While work on the other hand is very gentle with attention, you have to put conscious effort to focus or you end up not spending a lot of time on work (most times).

I am someone who is easily distracted and I can't count the number of times I've found myself slacking off and doing something else when I'm supposed to be working on something. At times I think I might have ADHD (still yet to confirm).

There comes a time when we have to lock in and focus on work. Probably we have a goal to achieve, or perhaps it's a deadline to meet.

We all have that one thing we do when we need to concentrate on work and get things done, for me it's listening to lofi.

I started listening to lofi this last exam that I had. Prior to then I was of the opinion that I was one of those who couldn't listen to music while reading but once I started listening to lofi I realized I was wrong. Normally unless I'm really tired I can't even sleep when listening to music. I just keep on fixating on the lyrics or the catchy beats, but lofi eliminates that. There's no lyrics and the beats are just calm and cool to keep the mind active but not burden it with thoughts.

When I listen to Lofi I feel like I'm the main character at that moment and everything else around me is almost non-existent. The music serves as background music and just keeps the mind going.

I mostly do this when I need to get to reading and I recently started doing it whenever I want to write posts. I have noticed that it takes me a lot less time to write than it used to before. Just yesterday I was shocked at how fast I was able to come up with my post. And just in case you're wondering, yes I am listening to some lofi beats as I'm writing this post.

I don't have any specific lofi playlist, whenever I want to listen to lofi I just hop on Spotify and go to an artist called Lofi girl's page. You can check it out here if you want. There are lots and lots of lofi beats there.

I also discovered this nice lofi beats album by @ravenmus1c called Doompunk. It has some nice lofi beats here as well.

For some, focus is relatively easy, but for others (like me) we have to find things that help us concentrate. Finding what helps you to focus is very helpful and goes a long way in increasing one's productivity.

What helps you lock in?

~THANKS FOR READING~

(Edited)

I thought so too till a few seconds ago when I went to confirm my answer, and boy I was wrong.

According to Google

Lo-fi is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice.

I also found that the full meaning of Lofi is Low fidelity. Crazy right? To think imperfections can be so perfect. I've learnt something new today. Thank you :)
