The Breakthrough of Brandy

Brandy has established herself as a successful solo artist on her self-titled debut album, and the joined the ranks of young female R&B artists came to be during their time. Her first single was "I Wanna Be Down" which was released in 1994, and it brought her to number 6 in Billboard Hot 100, and a number 36 peak in UK Singles Chart.

Brandy has proven she isn't a one-hit wonder when her second single "Baby" from her self-titled debut album became a top 5 hit, with number 4 peak in Billboard Hot 100. It was less successful in Europe than its predecessor though. "Best Friend" was released as the third single but it had peaked lower at number 34 in Billboard Hot 100.

"Brokenhearted" was her return to the top 10, at number 9 in the US. Afterwards, Brandy has appeared in the soundtrack of "Waiting to Exhale" with the song "Sittin' Up in My Room". It became a hit reaching number 2 in Billboard Hot 100, and number 30 in UK, which was her return to the top 40 in the country.

"Brandy" album had a number 20 peak in Billboard 200, but it was successful for exceeding 4 million units in America. Global sales may have been above 6 million copies.
