Survivor: When Destiny's Child Survived

There has been a lot of controversies regarding Destiny's Child which was originally consisted of Beyonce, Kelly, LeToya, and LaTavia. The latter two had issues with the management, and eventually replaced by Michelle and Farrah, a move that disappointed the two. Eventually, Farrah left the group after few months, and the group turned into a trio. That time, it seems Destiny's Child has embraced the number, and recorded their third studio album.

Their first single as a trio has been "Independent Women Part I" which was from the soundtrack of the movie "Charlie's Angels". The song was eventually added to their third album "Survivor", but not as a lead single. It ultimately became a global hit reaching number 1 for 11 weeks on Billboard Hot 100, as well as the US Mainstream chart. It also became a number 1 hit on UK Singles Chart and European Hot 100 Singles. It achieved a platinum award both in US and UK.

Finally, the lead and title track for their album "Survivor" was released. At that time, the song was controversial as it aimed at former Destiny's Child members LeToya and LaTavia, who filed a lawsuit against former bandmates and manager. The song became a commercial success globally reaching number 2 both in Billboard Hot 100 and US Mainstream chart. It was a number 1 hit in UK, and number 2 in Europe. It was also certified platinum in United States and United Kingdom.

"Bootylicious" became the official second single off the album, which had a remix version with Missy Elliott. The single gave Destiny's Child another number 1 hit on Billboard Hot 100, whilst it had reached a peak of number 2 in UK.

The group has recorded their own version of "Emotion" which became a number 10 hit in Billboard Hot 100, and number 8 on US Mainstream chart. It became a top 3 hit on UK Singles Chart though.

"Nasty Girl" was released as the final single from "Survivor". In US and UK, the song wasn't released so it didn't chart there, while in several European countries, the song charted with a number 68 peak on European Hot 100 Singles.

"Survivor" may not have matched the sales of "The Writings on the Wall" but it was very successful globally reaching number 1, and one of the biggest sellers of 2001. It was close to 5 million sales in America, while it was on its way to 4x platinum in UK. Globally, it has sold 10 million copies or even more.
