Jennifer Lopez isn't actually new to music industry before her debut album. She actually starred on the movie "Selena", which she portrayed the title role. After around two years, she finally released her debut album "On the 6", which before its release, many are reluctant whether Jennifer can make it big in music industry until "If You Had My Love" was released.
"If You Had My Love" was the carrier single off "On the 6", and it's a song with elements of pop, dance, R&B, hip-hop, and Latin sounds. The song because an international hit reaching number 4 in UK Singles Chart and European Hot 100 Singles. It became her first number 1 hit on Billboard Hot 100. "No Me Ames" was released only a week after "If You Had My Love" to Latin countries, and it became a number 1 hit in those territories.

"Waiting for Tonight" was released as the official third single, and it's a dance pop track. It became Lopez's second big hit worldwide reaching number 5 both in European Hot 100 Singles and UK charts. It peaked at number 8 in Billboard Hot 100, and number 3 in Mainstream chart.
The hip-hop and R&B track "Feelin' So Good" was released as the fourth single but it charted moderately peaking at number 51 in Billboard Hot 100, and number 15 in UK Singles Chart. The final single has been "Let's Get Loud", which is a Latin, dance-pop song. It was a hit especially in Europe where it universally became a top 10 hit.

"On the 6" is considered as a successful album reaching number 8 in the United States, going 3x platinum. It was a number 14 album in UK, where it was platinum. Sales estimate for the album was more than 8 million copies.
