Coast to Coast: Westlife's Sophomore Album

Westlife has sold millions worldwide from their self-titled debut album, and achieved 5 consecutive number 1 hits in United Kingdom. Of course, it is not expected to maintain the consecutive number 1 hits but they maintained consecutive top 5 hits from their second album "Coast to Coast". The record was also their all-time biggest seller.

Before the album's release, Westlife was asked to collaborate with female superstar Mariah Carey, which was a privilege for the group, even the song wasn't released in North America. That song was the cover of the Phil Collins original "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", by which Mariah has already released her solo version months prior in several countries worldwide. The collaboration with Westlife became a hit though, as it was the group's 6th consecutive number 1 hit in UK, while it was Mariah's only second chart topper in the same country. The version also peaked at number 3 in European Hot 100 Singles.

"My Love" was released as the follow-up single by which the album's title was taken from its lyrics. The song became Westlife's second number 1 hit in UK, whilst a number 3 hit in Eurochart Hot 100. Its music video was also their most viewed song on YouTube.

"What Makes a Man" was the third single, and despite being a number 2 hit in United Kingdom, it is the song which ended their consecutive number 1 streak. Even in Eurochart Hot 100, it only peaked at number 10. While the song is doing well in certain countries, "I Lay My Love on You" was released in Asia, and eventually in other European countries. The song was a number 1 hit on MTV Asia Hitlist.

"Uptown Girl" Westlife's version reached number 1 in UK Singles Chart, which was part of the album's re-issue, and included on their subsequent album. "When You're Looking Like That" was also released in some countries, and despite not being released in UK, it was certified Silver Record there.

"Coast to Coast" was indeed a successful album with estimated global sales at 7 million copies, while it was certified 6x platinum in United Kingdom.
