Savage Garden took a while to take off worldwide on their self-titled debut album despite popularity in their homeland Australia. It was a 7 million seller in United States with 7x platinum equivalent, 3x platinum in United Kingdom, 10x platinum in Canada, and 12x platinum in Australia. The numbers are proof that Savage Garden became superstars with their debut.

Their second album "Affirmation" was released late 1999, and it was preceded by the ballad "I Knew I Loved You", which featured Kirsten Dunst on its music video. The song became a US hit reaching number 1 both in Billboard Hot 100 and Mainstream chart. It was a top 10 hit in UK.

The title track was released as a single in several territories including UK, where it reached number 8. "Crash and Burn" was considered as the fourth single, which was a hit in Asia, while it reached number 24 in Billboard Hot 100, 14 in Mainstream chart, and also 14 in UK Singles Chart.
