A Rush of Blood to the Head: Coldplay's Most Successful Album

Coldplay became one of the biggest selling bands since 2000, and they had achieved initial success through their debut album "Parachutes" which was 2x platinum in the United States and 9x platinum in United Kingdom. It was reported that it has sold around 13 million globally!

They released their second album in 2002 "A Rush of Blood to the Head" which continues the mellow alternative rock sound Coldplay has started with "Parachutes". The album featured "In My Place" as the lead single which is known for its melancholic rock sound. It became their highest peak in UK Singles Chart at that time for reaching number 2. In European Hot 100 Singles, it peaked at number 8. The song failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100, while it reached number 17 at Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. Its music video gained more than 260 million views on YouTube.

"The Scientist" was released as the second single which had only peaked at number 10 in UK Singles Chart, lower than "In My Place". In the US, it failed to chart in Billboard Hot 100, rather at number 5 of Adult Alternative Songs. Despite the lower chart positions, the song was considered as a hit as it became popular years after its release. In fact, it has achieved 1.1 billion views on YouTube, which is rare for an early 2000s music video. It even achieved 4x platinum in the US, while it was 3x platinum in UK.

"Clocks" was the third single off "A Rush of Blood to the Head", and it became their highest peak at Billboard Hot 100 at that time reaching number 29, 21 in Mainstream chart, and a double platinum certification in the US. It was a number 9 hit in UK, where it was certified platinum. It has more than 445 million YouTube views.

"God Put a Smile upon Your Face" was the final single but it charted moderately. It was a number 100 hit in UK Singles Chart.

With regards to the album "A Rush of Blood to the Head", it became very successful reaching number 5 in the US, with more than 4 million sales in the country. In UK, it was 10x platinum. There are sales estimates which was around 17 million copies worldwide.
