Music; the priceless gem

Music undeniably forms an integral part of society. Whether for cultural purposes or personal enjoyment, it plays a very crucial role.

Although I like to listen to music very much, I had little knowledge of the various types until this topic was given and I decided to do my little research.
Both African and Western music have their deep-rooted origins and cultural implications.

African music takes different forms and types. From highlife to Afrobeat to hip-hop to hip-life to amapiano and the likes. There are also religious ones as well as traditional ones. African music has a lot of beats and rhythm. They can be used for both public or private enjoyment or public participation. African music especially afrobeats and amapiano has made waves across the world.

Western music on the other hand has less combination of beats and rhythms. They contain more sounds from instruments like clarinets and pianos. They are also known as country music. They are more "calm and slow" as compared to African music which is more fast and rhythmic. Similar to African music, there are religious Western music as well as traditional ones, and can also be used for private or public enjoyment.

My preference for a particular type of music depends on how well it is composed, how well it is sung, and most importantly, the lyrics of the song and the meaning it carries. I listen to any type of music whether Western or African. The choice of music I listen to at a particular time depends on my mood at that time. I would like to listen to Afrobeat on a happy day and a "slowed" song on a calm day.

My favorite type of music however is Gospel, whether hip-hop or country music; once it talks about Jesus, I am good to go.
