Music and singers that form part of your country’s folklore – July’s Topic 🎶 (EN-ES)

Primero les hablaré de una autora, con una voz increíble, única y que coincido con Claudia, pocos pueden cantar lo que ella canta con esa voz. Se trata de Mercedes Sosa. Una mujer que fue cuestionada y que incluso estuvo en el exilio, seguramente por decir verdades o más bien cantarlas, en una época de Argentina, donde la libertad de expresión no era posible y su folclore era un folclore de protesta.

Esta canción de ella es mi favorita, les invito a escucharla, la letra es de las más hermosas y reflexivas que hay.

First, I’d like to tell you about a singer with an incredible, unique voice, and I agree with Claudia that very few can sing what she sings with that voice. I’m talking about Mercedes Sosa. A woman who was criticised and who even spent time in exile, no doubt for speaking the truth, or rather, for singing it, at a time in Argentina when freedom of expression was not possible and her folk music was a form of protest.

This song of hers is my favourite; I invite you to listen to it, the lyrics are among the most beautiful and thought-provoking you’ll ever hear.

Pero por supuesto quiero hacer énfasis en aquellos autores que le gustan a Claudia, esa es la experiencia que quiero contarles hoy, esa charla compartida el día de ayer y sus gustos para dar a conocer la música y los autores que forman parte del folclore argentino.

En principio a ella le encanta Horacio Guarany, un excelente canta autor. Aunque también le gusta el Chaqueño Palavecino, que es sólo un intérprete. Pero el tema está en las canciones que tienen tanto de poesía. También le gusta Argentino Luna y Atahualpa Yupanqui, éste último de la provincia de Buenos Aires, aunque hizo su carrera en los valles calchaquíes.

But of course I want to highlight the artists Claudia likes; that’s the experience I want to share with you today, the conversation we had yesterday and her tastes, to introduce you to the music and artists that form part of Argentine folklore.

First of all, she loves Horacio Guarany, an excellent singer-songwriter. She also likes Chaqueño Palavecino, who is simply a performer. But the point is the songs, which are so full of poetry. She also likes Argentino Luna and Atahualpa Yupanqui, the latter from the province of Buenos Aires, although he made his name in the Calchaquí valleys.

Hablando de cantantes más modernos le encanta Luciano Pereira y también a mí me gusta. Otro autor es Abel Pintos, aunque ya no haga folclore puro. Le gusta como a mí Los Nocheros, de los que alguna vez he traído alguna canción, pero hoy les trigo una de las favoritas de mi amiga y que ella toca con la guitarra. Por nombrar otros autores les dejo estos: El trío San Javier y Los Cantores del Alba.

Speaking of more contemporary singers, she loves Luciano Pereira, and I like him too. Another artist is Abel Pintos, although he no longer performs pure folk music. Like me, she likes Los Nocheros, I’ve shared a few of their songs before, but today I’m bringing you one of my friend’s favourites, which she plays on the guitar. To name a few others, here are some artists I’d like to mention: El Trío San Javier and Los Cantores del Alba.

No puedo dejar de compartir esta canción que es una de sus favoritas también. La artista se llama Tamara Castro y la canción Zamba de Amor en Vuelo, la verdad es que tiene una voz preciosa y la letra es maravillosa. Claudia se aprendió esta canción practicando un rato durante tres noches.

A Claudia le gustan a demás, todas las zambas, pero les traigo una a modo de ejemplo, una de sus favoritas. No se imaginan lo que se entusiasmó cuando hablábamos de aquellas canciones que le gustaban y yo me sentí muy feliz por ello, por eso le dedico esta publicación, porque gracias a ella puedo dar a conocer más del folclore de Argentina, ya que es más conocedora que yo de este tema.

I simply have to share this song, which is one of her favourites too. The artist is called Tamara Castro and the song is ‘Zamba de Amor en Vuelo’; she really does have a beautiful voice and the lyrics are wonderful. Claudia learnt this song by practising for a while over three evenings.

Claudia also loves all zambas, but I’m sharing this one as an example, it’s one of her favourites. You can’t imagine how excited she got when we were talking about the songs she liked, and I was so happy for her. That’s why I’m dedicating this post to her, because thanks to her, I can share more about Argentine folklore, as she knows far more about it than I do.
