Today I decided to do a music review again, and the truth is that I had no idea what album to do, because I'm waiting for visuals of "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard" by Lana Del Rey. Between coffee, music and conversations, my mom gave me the great idea to review an album by Shakira, a global singer and one that I like. So here we are with a review of the Colombian.
To speak of Shakira is to speak of many years of a legacy and trajectory, of a career full of successes, peak moments that marked pop culture in an unparalleled way. Millions of sales, historic tours, multiple hit singles, simply a pride for Latin American music. That's why, not being able to simply choose an album to review, I will do a Deep Dive, that is, a deep "dive" through the singer's studio albums, from her first albums to the most recent one. Who knows, by the time we finish with the albums, she will have already released a new one?
It's weird, but I've decided to start with Shakira's third studio album, titled "Pies Descalzos" and released in October 1995 in Colombia. Shakira came with two terrible musical failures, two albums released that were a resounding failure, unfortunately, but this did not stop her, on the contrary, she took some time for herself, finish her studies and get back to creating music. She brings us a huge musical gem where she shows great growth. Go and take off your shoes, make some good tea, breathe some fresh air and join me for a review of Pies Descalzos by Shakira.
Time left behind, I know you won't come back.
Serving as the first official single of the era and, probably, the first of several hits. Although not a huge hit, it served to give it some global attention and, mainly in the United States, where it began to enter the Latin charts. But enough about the performance, which was very good, let's talk a bit about its production and lyrics.
We can see what will be the sound of the album, a bit of classic Latin rock, a very popular sound at the time, but Shakira gives it a twist, a little touch, incorporating pop, turning the song into the Latin Pop genre, which makes the song catchy and entertaining. In production, it reminds me of Madonna's Like A Prayer, incorporating backing vocals and a certain tambourine that catches my attention.
As for the lyrics, it talks a bit about a relationship that ends and tries to recover, it's almost like wanting to go back to the past to change the things that ended the relationship and modify them to continue with that person. It has simple, almost relaxed lyrics that take you on a journey.
Yesterday I looked for you
Between the ground, and the sky, my sky.
It doesn't take you long to recognize this song, as it's one of the emblematic songs for fans of the half-rockerita Shakira. It has the same sound that is handled in the album, this Latin Pop style that incorporates 90s rock vibes. I should also mention that it sounds a bit similar to "Estoy Aquí", but it has a much more up-tempo vibe, faster, less ballad and more pop, it's fun to listen to, and just like the aforementioned song, it has a chorus.
The lyrics are quite poetic, metaphorical, powerful. Perhaps my favorite line is when she says: "Because there's no one else on the planet that I can love", especially for the sentiment with which she delivers it, almost heartbreaking, followed by a quite moving chorus.
Fun Fact: I love how the songs before would always fade out, at the end of the music it would always go silent until it was quiet and the next song would start, chef kiss.
Of bare feet
And of white dreams.
Probably the most Pop-Rock song on the album, very up-tempo, very nineties, very irreverent and satirical, and it's definitely one of my two favorites of the whole album. Everything seems perfect to me about this song, it has a production that doesn't get any less interesting. The lyrics are something I love.
Talking about all the social rules that man invented as a society after Adam and Eve, but it's a liberating and creative lyric, a complete satire on the story of the apple and the snake and how men used it to create a whole series of rules to suit themselves.
My favorite part? In general I find the whole bridge magnificent, but when she says: "Women always get married before 30, otherwise they'll wear saints" is perhaps the highlight of the whole album or at least my top moment.
When I look up to the sky.
A very interesting gem from this magnificent album. It is very particular, although not my favorite, I find the change of rhythm from pop and rock to Reggae, including a singer of that genre, a round of applause for Shakira for not being afraid to experiment a little and not limiting herself to one genre, something we see she will continue to do throughout her career.
The song practically tells us how Shakira is looking for someone to love her, to make her feel accompanied and not remain in that loneliness, but from an optimistic and colorful point of view. The song feels relaxing, light, maybe ethnic, colorful without a doubt.
Reggae has never been my favorite genre, but the song, after listening to it about five times as I write this review, has stuck with me, crazy as it is. I still don't think it's one of the best on the album, but at least it's pretty catchy.
And it's hard to believe that there isn't
One more than this love.
The most popular and powerful ballad of the whole album, an incredible breakup song that will always bring a tear to your eye. The truth is that this is one of my two favorites, as I mentioned in "Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos", and it is a very heartbreaking song, sensitive, human, almost charming as well as tragic. It is, from my point of view and Shakira's, one of the most beautiful songs she has ever sung.
In it she tells us how beautiful it was to be in love, how she learned so many things with this person, all the knowledge he gave her during the relationship, yet she forgot to teach him how to live without him. That's why, lyrically, it feels so beautiful and tragic.
It's one of Shakira's best, the best on the album, my favorite of this era and one of the most important to me of her entire discography. I remember being a little kid and enjoying it when my mom would play it loud on the little stereo, it takes me back to good times. I also suffered it, when I broke up with my boyfriend, I felt that the song, the melody, everything, everything made sense at that moment.

It is my first time in all my 22 years of life that I stopped to listen to an entire Shakira album, yes, I think that starting this journey with this particular album was the right decision and I think I am very excited to go on this journey of discovery together with all my reader and music lover friends. It is an incredible start to an excellent discography, a coherent album that deals with love, heartbreak, even controversial topics for the time such as abortion, with refreshing sounds for a female voice and for Latin music. From my perspective, the perfect start, intelligent in her career, because it would go hand in hand with musical trends, but adding a unique touch that little by little would give her her place in the industry.
Musically it may not be my favorite era of Shakira, because I'm excited to listen to her Dance albums, but it was a very good experience, I'm not complaining even though it's not my style. It's a start, because you can tell that she needs to polish, she needs to grow and mature as a musician, but it's something I'd like to see, this kind of growth in an artist until she reaches her mature, experienced and consecrated point as a star.

Less favorites: Vuelve, Te Espero Sentada.

So much for my review, which I loved doing because it's not the same as my previous Deep Dive, it's listening to new music and seeing how my mind processes it. Shakira is an established artist nowadays, but with this journey we will see if she was always as great. With this album she proves that she is a poet and an artist with a voice and something to say, art to create. Bienvenidos a mi blog, amigos melómanos.
Hoy decidí volver a hacer una crítica musical, y la verdad es que no tenía idea de que álbum hacer, porque espero visuales de “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard” de Lana Del Rey. Entre café, música y conversaciones, mi mamá me dio la magnífica idea de hacerle reseña a algún álbum de Shakira, una cantante de talla global y quien es del agrado de mí. Así que aquí estamos con una reseña de la colombiana.
Hablar de Shakira es hablar de muchísimos años de un legado y trayectoria, de una carrera repleta de éxitos, momentos cumbre y que marcaron a la cultura pop de una manera inigualable. Millones de ventas, giras históricas, múltiples sencillos exitosos, simplemente un orgullo para la música latinoamericana. Es por eso que, no pudiendo simplemente escoger un álbum para hacerle reseña, haré un Deep Dive, es decir, un “buceo” profundo a través de los álbumes de estudio de la cantante, desde sus primeros álbumes hasta el más reciente. ¿Quién quita y para cuando terminemos con los álbumes ya haya estrenado uno nuevo?
Es raro, pero he decidido empezar con el tercer álbum de estudio de Shakira, titulado “Pies Descalzos” y publicado en octubre de 1995 en Colombia. Shakira venía con dos terribles fracasos musicales, dos álbumes publicados que fueron un fracaso rotundo, lamentablemente, pero esto no la detuvo, por el contrario, se tomó un tiempo para ella misma, terminar sus estudios y volver a crear música. Nos trae una enorme joya musical donde muestra un gran crecimiento. Vayan y quítense los zapatos, hagan un buen té, respiren un poco de aire fresco y únanse a mí a la reseña de Pies Descalzos de Shakira.
El tiempo lo dejó atrás, sé que no regresarás.
Sirviendo como el primer sencillo oficial de la era y, probablemente, el primero de varios éxitos. A pesar de que no es un gran éxito, sirvió para darle un poco de atención global y, principalmente en Estados Unidos, donde empezó a entrar en listas de los éxitos latinos. Pero basta de hablar del rendimiento, que fue muy bueno, hablemos un poco acerca de su producción y letra.
Podemos ver lo que será el sonido del álbum, un poco de rock clásico latino, un sonido muy popular en esa época, pero Shakira le da un giro, un pequeño toque, le incorpora pop, convirtiendo la canción en el género de Pop Latino, lo que hace a la canción pegadiza y entretenida. En producción, me recuerda a un Like A Prayer de Madonna, incorporando coros y cierta pandereta que llama mucho la atención.
En cuanto a la lírica, nos habla un poco de una relación que termina y se trata de recuperar, es casi como querer volver al pasado para cambiar las cosas que acabaron con la relación y modificarlas para seguir junto a esa persona. Tiene una letra sencilla, casi relajada que te lleva por un viaje.
Ayer te busqué
Entre el suelo, y el cielo, mi cielo .
No tardas mucho en reconocer esta canción, pues es de las emblemáticas de los fanáticos de la Shakira medio rockerita. Tiene el mismo sonido que se maneja en el álbum, este estilo de Pop Latino que incorpora vibras de rock de los 90s. También debo mencionar que suena un poco parecida a “Estoy Aquí”, pero tiene una vibra bastante más movida, más rápida, menos balada y más pop, es divertida de escuchar, y al igual que la anteriormente mencionada, tiene un coro.
La letra la noto bastante poética, metafórica, poderosa. Quizá mi línea favorita es cuando dice: “Porque en el planeta no existe más nadie a quien pueda yo amar”, en especial por el sentimiento con el que la entrega, casi desgarrador, seguido de un coro bastante movido.
Fun Fact: Me encanta como las canciones de antes siempre se desvanecían, al final de la música siempre se iba silenciando hasta que quedara callada y empezara la siguiente canción, chef kiss.
De pies descalzos
Y de sueños blancos.
Probablemente la canción más Pop-Rock que hay en el álbum, muy movida, muy noventera, muy irreverente y satírica, y es, en definitiva, una de mis dos favoritas de todo el álbum. Todo me parece perfecto con respecto a esta canción, tiene una producción que no baja de ser interesante. La letra es algo que me encanta.
Hablar de todas las reglas sociales que inventó el hombre como sociedad luego de que Adam y Eva, pero es una letra liberadora y creativa, una completa sátira a la historia de la manzana y la serpiente y como los hombres la usaron para crear toda una serie de reglas a conveniencia.
¿Mi parte favorita? En general todo el puente me parece magnífico, pero cuando dice: “Las mujeres se casan siempre antes de 30, si no vestirán santos” es quizá el momento cumbre de todo el álbum o al menos mi momento top.
En que miro hacia el cielo.
Una joya muy interesante de este magnífico álbum. Es muy particular, aunque no mi favorita, me parece que el cambio de ritmo del pop y rock al Reggae, incluyendo un cantante de dicho género, un aplauso para Shakira por no temer a experimentar un poco y no limitarse a un solo género, algo que vemos que seguirá haciendo a través de toda su carrera.
La canción prácticamente nos habla de cómo Shakira está buscando alguien que la ame, que la haga sentirse acompañada y no seguir en esa soledad, pero desde un punto de vista optimista y colorido. La canción se siente relajante, liviana, quizá étnica, colorida sin duda.
El Reggae nunca ha sido mi género favorito, pero la canción, luego de haberla escuchado unas cinco veces mientras escribo la reseña, se me ha quedado pegada, por loco que sea. Sigo pensando que no es de las mejores del álbum, pero al menos es bastante pegadiza.
Y es difícil creer que no exista
Una más que este amor.
La balada más popular y poderosa de todo el álbum, una increíble canción de ruptura que siempre te sacará una lágrima. La verdad es que esta es de mis dos favoritas, como mencioné en “Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos”, y es que es una canción muy desgarradora, sensible, humana, casi encantadora a la par de trágica. Es, desde mi punto de vista y el de Shakira, una de las canciones más hermosas que ha cantado.
En ella nos narra lo hermoso que fue estar enamorada, como aprendió tantas cosas con esta persona, todo el conocimiento que le dio durante la relación, sin embargo olvidó enseñarle como vivir sin él. Por eso, líricamente se siente tan hermosa y trágica.
Es de las mejores de Shakira, la mejor del álbum, mi favorita de esta era y de las más importantes para mí de toda su discografía. Recuerdo ser un pequeño niño y disfrutar cuando mi mamá la ponía a todo volumen en el pequeño equipo de sonido, me lleva a buenos tiempos. También la sufrí, cuando terminé con mi novio, sentí que la canción, la melodía, todo, todo tuvo sentido en ese momento.

Es mi primera vez en todos mis 22 años de vida en el que me detuve a escuchar todo un álbum de Shakira, sí. Me parece que haber iniciado este viaje con este álbum en particular fue la decisión correcta y creo que me entusiasma mucho realizar este viaje de descubrimiento junto a todos mis amigos lectores y melómanos. Es un increíble inicio para una excelente discografía, un álbum coherente que trata del amor, del desamor, incluso temas polémicos para la época como el aborto, con sonidos refrescantes para una voz femenina y para la música latina. Desde mi perspectiva, el inicio perfecto, inteligente en su carrera, porque iría a la par con las tendencias musicales, pero añadiéndole un toque único que poco a poco le daría su lugar en la industria.
Musicalmente quizá no sea mi era favorita de Shakira, porque me entusiasma escuchar sus álbumes más Dance, pero fue una muy buena experiencia, no me quejo a pesar de que no es mi estilo. Es un inicio, porque se nota que le falta pulir, le falta crecer y madurar como música, pero es algo que me gustaría ver, este tipo de crecimiento en un artista hasta llegar a su punto maduro, experimentado y consagrado como una estrella.

Shakira es una artista consagrada en la actualidad, pero con este viaje veremos si siempre fue igual de genial. Con este álbum demuestra que es una poetiza y una artista con una voz y algo que decir, arte que crear. Ohhh! Este es uno de mis álbumes favoritos de Shakira, aunque lamentablemente no puedo decir lo mismo de sus éxitos más frecuentes, ya que siento que la letra de estos éxitos han perdido mucha calidad y sobre todo calidez, se han vuelto fríos y más del montón (bueno en mi opinión) pero estas canciones que Shakira escribía antes hasta Fijación Oral eran una verdadera joya poética, de todos modos sigue siendo mi cantante favorita desde los ocho años ¡La Amo! Gracias por traer esta reseña, de verdad es un album al que le tengo mucho cariño porque me recuerda mi feliz infancia.

Es uno de sus mejores trabajos, liricamente hablando, de eso no cabe duda. Shakira siempre ha sido una gran artista pero ante todo una estrella, y sabe que movimientos hacer para seguir siendo relevante, aunque eso le cueste un poco de su calidad a la hora de traer arte. Con el paso del tiempo se fue adaptando a nuevas tendencias y dejó de añadir toda la poesía que en un principio la hacía tan fascinante, pero sigue siendo una artista de pies a cabeza y una de mis favoritas. Espero que esté atenta a las siguientes reseñas, porque voy a hacerle una semanal, recorriendo su trayectoria y evolución, y obviamente estoy esperando a llegar a Fijación Oral y Laundry Service.
