If you have read a little of my content, you will know that together with all of you who read me we are reviewing the discography of a music great and one of the most important artists in Latin America, we are browsing Shakira's albums in their respective chronological order. I have been waiting to get to this album of Shakira's Deep Dive as it is the beginning of the blonde Shakira, the one who became world famous and who would innovate both Pop and Latin Pop. Together let's see a little of what Shakira's "Laundry Service" was all about.
We have before us the best-selling album in Shakira's entire career, and not only the most successful, but the one that catapulted her to the charts in the USA and European countries, consolidating her as a great Latin force to be recognized, and that is something that fascinates me about this album, which, described by Shakira herself, was her "Golden Era".
Laundry Service was Shakira's first bilingual album, released in 2001 (coincidentally the year I was born) in its English version, and then in 2002 she would release "Servicio de Lavandería" although both are counted as one album. It had great hits, among them "Whenever, Wherever" and "Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)". It's a musical journey that focuses much more on the sexy and pop side of Shakira, bringing us a new side of the artist. Get ready to take a look at this album, we go back to 2001 with Laundry Service by Shakira.
We could both make fun of distance.
We have in our hands the most important single of the era, the single that started it all and the one that remains the most successful of the album. There are the two versions, "Suerte" and "Whenever, Wherever", one in English and one in Spanish, both released at the same time and both achieving incredible success. They have the same production but the lyrics in both languages.
We can all recognize the "Lerololelole", they even use it in a humorous way in social networks nowadays, that's how far the legacy of this song has come. It is quite a pop production, characteristic, with elements of Andean music that makes it even more original and addictive. The production is simply exquisite, without much more to add.
As for the lyrics, they talk about how lucky, or "Suerte" Shakira is to have found love. It has certain humorous elements that fascinate me about the lyrics, for example: "Lucky that my breasts are small, and don't confuse them with mountains" is clever and funny, and I really love that part, those elements that make the song worthwhile and justify its success.

Second single of the era, this time only in English, with no Spanish version. A beautiful and powerful ballad, that caresses your soul a little bit with the essence of Shakira, almost like feeling the rockerita of the last album, but still we notice the transition to the Pop genre. But I love the song because it is notorious the essence of the old Shakira, from the lyrics to the whole production, where she was quite involved.
It's definitely one of my favorites of the album, and I didn't think I'd say that about a ballad on an album as powerful and important as this one, but Underneath Your Clothes manages to be a favorite without the need to be big and ostentatious, it's not a majestic production, but with its simplicity it manages to captivate you.
The lyrics tell us a little of the immense love that Shakira feels for a man, in many words she explains how she is worthy of his love, especially for having maternal instinct, to be the perfect partner for him.
But all the damage she's caused isn't fixable.
We can thank Gloria Estefan for having a Shakira who dared to sing in English and to venture into great songs like these, which would be the beginning of successes in the Anglo-Saxon market. The song, like much of the album, comes bilingual and there is a Spanish and an English version of this song, both being a resounding success.
Lyrically, the song narrates a Shakira who discovers she is part of a love triangle and decides to end it, renouncing the man in question, and making a fool of him with bold lines such as: May heaven and your mother take care of you.
Now, the production... A total Chef Kiss. There's not much I can add but praise for the sound and production of this piece. The mix of tango with both genres, pop and rock, make this song by far the most interesting, if we are talking about the sound, and it does not fall short in terms of evolution, because as it progresses, the song gets better and better, reaching the point that, the last chorus is undoubtedly the best.
I hate television anyway.
Another one of those songs from Shakira's repertoire that reminds me of my childhood, my mom and that old Shakira who didn't put so much into her pop side. Although this song is more of a promotional single than an official single, I thought it was ideal to include it in this list because it was a hit dedicated to the Latin community, since it was released with Latin America as the main market and, without a doubt, it was a hit in its native lands.
The song brings us back to our rock Shakira, but one of those ballad type songs, a soft rock that leaves you in a nice trance that only Shakira knows how to achieve. I don't have much to comment on the production because it feels simple in comparison to the other singles, it reminds me a lot of her predecessor albums.
This could be considered the last single of this era, because the one that was planned to be released as the final single, "The One", was dropped, due to the poor musical performance of Objection (Tango). I'm glad I decided to release this as a final single, because it's part of me and I find it a cute and endearing, yet simple song.

From a general point of view, the album is genius, it is reasonable why it is Shakira's best selling album. Now, once you start gutting the album from start to finish, you realize why the critics praised it so much and the general public loved it, it is probably Shakira's masterpiece that we have in our hands.
The transition from rock to pop, from her Latin bases to a more universal rhythm, feels right, almost intelligent, almost magnanimous. Laundry Service goes straight to my top albums, and something that leaves me speechless is knowing that this only counts as the third studio album, that is, we still have a lot of musical career ahead of us, and beautiful songs and powerful events that have consolidated Shakira as a music great.
Album highlights: Underneath Your Clothes, Whenever Wherever, Objection (Tango).
Less favorites: The One, Rules.

The production? gorgeous, the lyrics? clever, intelligent, talented, the singles? just right, the album? a resounding 9.2 / 10, a score I hope to see surpassed by Oral Fixation 1 and 2. Canonically Shakira improved in so many ways, I can only say: Blonde hair looks perfect on her.
It was a pleasure to have reviewed this album, not only to have the blessing of hearing it, but to also have the honor of sharing it with you, giving you what is my opinion of, what I consider, good music. Si han leído un poco de mi contenido, sabrán que junto a todos los que me leen estamos haciendo críticas de la discografía de una grande de la música y una de las artistas más importantes de Latinoamérica, estamos navegando por los álbumes de Shakira en su respectivo orden cronológico. He estado esperando llegar a este álbum del Deep Dive de Shakira pues se trata del inicio de la Shakira rubia, esa que se volvió mundialmente famosa y que innovaría tanto el Pop como el Pop Latino. Juntos veamos un poco de lo que fue “Laundry Service” de Shakira.
Tenemos ante nosotros al álbum más vendido en toda la carrera de Shakira, y no solo el más exitoso, pero el que la catapultó a las listas de USA y países de Europa, consolidándola como una gran fuerza latina por ser reconocida, y eso es algo que me fascina de este álbum, que, descrito por la propia Shakira, se trató de su “Era de Oro”.
Laundry Service fue el primer álbum bilingüe de la colombiana, estrenándolo en el 2001 (casualmente el año en que yo nací) en su versión en inglés, y luego en 2002 estrenaría “Servicio de Lavandería” aunque ambos son contados como un mismo álbum. Tuvo grandes hits, entre ellos “Whenever, Wherever” y “Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)”. Es un viaje musical que se centra mucho más en el lado sexy y pop de Shakira, trayéndonos una nueva faceta de la artista. Prepárate para darle un vistazo a este álbum, nos vamos al 2001 con Laundry Service de Shakira.
Y que burlemos las distancias.
Tenemos en nuestras manos el sencillo más importante de la era, el sencillo que inició todo y el que se mantiene como el más exitoso del álbum. Están las dos versiones, “Suerte” y “Whenever, Wherever”, una en inglés y en español, ambas estrenadas al mismo tiempo y ambas logrando un éxito increíble. Tienen la misma producción pero las letras en ambos idiomas.
Todos podemos reconocer el “Lerololelole”, incluso lo usan de forma humorística en redes sociales en la actualidad, así de lejos ha llegado el legado de esta canción. Es una producción bastante pop, característica, con elementos de música Andina que la hace aún más original y adictiva. La producción es sencillamente exquisita, sin mucho más que añadir.
En cuanto a las letras, nos hablan de lo afortunada, o de la “Suerte” que tiene Shakira al haber encontrado el amor. Tiene ciertos elementos humorísticos que me fascinan de la letra, por ejemplo: “Suerte que mis pechos sean pequeños, y no los confundas con montañas” es inteligente y chistoso, y de verdad me encanta esa parte, esos elementos que hacen que la canción valga la pena y justifican su éxito.
Escrita por las manos de Dios.
Segundo sencillo de la era, esta vez solo en inglés, sin versión en español.Una hermosa y poderosa balada, que te acaricia el alma un poco con la esencia de Shakira, casi como sentir a la rockerita del álbum pasado, pero aún así notamos bastante la transición al género Pop. Pero me encanta de la canción porque es notoria la esencia de la antigua Shakira, desde las letras hasta toda la producción, donde ella se vio bastante involucrada.
En definitiva es de mis favoritas del álbum, y no pensé decirlo de una balada en un álbum tan poderoso e importante como este, pero Underneath Your Clothes logra ser favorita sin la necesidad de ser grande y ostentosa, no es una producción majestuosa, pero con su sencillez logra cautivarte.
Las letras nos cuentan un poco del amor inmenso que siente Shakira por un hombre, en muchas palabras le explica como ella es merecedora de su amor, en especial por tener instinto maternal, para ser la pareja perfecta para él.
Cuando se entierra en el medio de un no y un sí.
Podemos dar gracias a Gloria Estefan por tener a una Shakira que se atrevió a cantar en inglés y a incursionar en grandes canciones como estas, que serían el inicio de éxitos en el mercado anglosajón. La canción, al igual que gran parte del álbum, viene bilingüe y hay una versión español y una en inglés de esta canción, ambas siendo un rotundo éxito.
Líricamente, las canción nos narra a una Shakira que descubre ser parte de un triángulo amoroso y decide terminarlo, renunciando al hombre en cuestión, y dejándolo en ridículo con atrevidas líneas como: Que el cielo y tu madre cuiden de ti.
Ahora, la producción… Un total Chef Kiss. No hay mucho que pueda añadir más que alabanzas para el sonido y la producción de esta pieza. La mezcla del tango con ambos géneros, pop y rock, hacen de esta canción por mucho la más interesante, si del sonido hablamos, y no se queda corta en cuanto a evolución, porque a medida que avanza, la canción se pone mejor y mejor, llegando al punto que, el último estribillo es sin duda el mejor.
Con lo mucho que odio la televisión.
Otra de esas canciones del repertorio de Shakira que me recuerdan a mi niñez, a mi mamá y a esa vieja Shakira que no le metía tanto a su lado pop. Si bien esta canción más que sencillo oficial, cuenta como uno promocional, me pareció ideal incluirlo en esta lista porque fue un éxito dedicado a la comunidad latina, pues se lanzó con Latinoamérica como mercado principal y, sin duda alguna, fue un éxito en sus tierras originarias.
La canción nos trae de regreso a nuestra Shakira del rock, pero de esas que son tipo balada, un soft rock que te deja en un lindo trance que solo Shakira sabe cómo lograr. De la producción no tengo mucho que comentar porque se siente sencilla en comparación con los otros sencillos, me hace recordar mucho a sus álbumes predecesores.
Este podría ser considerado el último sencillo de esta era, debido a que el que se tenía planeado lanzar como sencillo final, “The One”, fue descartado, debido al poco rendimiento musical de Objection (Tango). Me alegra que haya decidido sacar este como un último sencillo, porque forma parte de mí y me parece una canción linda y entrañable, aunque sencilla.

Desde un punto de vista general, el álbum es una genialidad, es razonable el por qué es el álbum más vendido de Shakira. Ahora, una vez que te pones a destripar el álbum de inicio a fin, te das cuenta porque los críticos lo alabaron tanto y el público general lo amó, se trata de, probablemente, la obra maestra de Shakira la que tenemos entre manos.
La transición del rock al pop, de sus bases latinas a un ritmo un tanto más universal, se siente bien, casi inteligente, casi magnánimo. Laundry Service pasa directamente a mi top de álbumes, y algo que me deja sin palabras es saber que este apenas viene contando como el tercer álbum de estudio, es decir, aún tenemos un montón de carrera musical por delante, y hermosas canciones y poderosos eventos que han consolidado a Shakira como una gran de la música.

Menos favoritas: The One, Rules.

¿La producción? una preciosidad, ¿Las letras? astutas, inteligentes, talentosas, ¿Los sencillos? justo los necesarios, ¿el álbum? un rotundo 9.2 / 10, una puntuación que espero ver ser superada por Oral Fixation 1 y 2. Canónicamente Shakira mejoró en tantos aspectos, que solo puedo decir: El cabello rubio le queda perfecto.
Fue un placer haber reseñado este álbum, no solo por tener la bendición de oírlo, sino por tener también el honor de compartirlo con ustedes, darles lo que es mi opinión de, lo que yo considero, buena música.
