How Music Speaks to Emotions Across Species
Humans singing for fun isn't for mating or communication, but does serve to connect us. You can also find animals engaging in play, like playing instruments (and no, humans aren't the only species that do that).
My point is, music isn't ONLY about mating and communication. It can also be about connection and expression of emotion. I do not thing humans are the only species who can have music that is about expression of emotion. We just have the widest range of frequencies we can experience.
It's probably more accurate to say that most animals have a way of bonding through noise. There are definitely some that are more for mating and communication, and others that are more for just expressing emotion.
But I think that human music is likely tied to an underlying instinct to connect the same way whale songs are, even though we've expanded it WAY beyond mating. Like it could be an overdeveloped version of the same instinct that the birds and whales have.
And I'm not suggesting that music for all species is for the purpose of communicating love/lust. I'm suggesting that species have music which produces a sense of happiness because it's in a frequency they like, the composition of the song is something they enjoy, etc.
Even with human music, we have music based on that kind of thing. Like we have music that's very rhythmic and repetitive, just to keep tempo over a long period of time, that isn't necessary for communicating love or lust.
