Music Theory and Rhythm Homeschool Coop Class - Panama

Yesterday our coop met to learn more about music. I love this idea because I was in the band for a few years and played the flute. I know how to read music, but I don't know how to teach anything about it. That's when it's good to have friends in the coop who have different skills!

Our friend, Sharon, was also in the band. She played the clarinet and suggested that everyone get a recorder so we could learn some songs to play on them.

These recorders (that's what we call them in the US) were $.99 at a local store - what a great deal!

She taught the kids how to read music and how to play each note. They would go around and each play the note so she could make sure they knew how to play it. They would also have to hold up their recorders with their fingers on the right note.

We watched some videos about rhythm and tapped or clapped it out. They were from this channel on YouTube -

In the end, the kids were able to play Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb. You can believe that we are hearing those songs played multiple times today! My kids also found an "Easy Recorder Songbook" in our home library!

Even the littlest members of our group had fun learning how to play some songs on the recorder!

We love our little homeschool coop and all of the fun activities we have with our friends!
