Music & Prayer Homeschool Co-op Class - Panama

(Edited)

Today's co-op class at our house was a lot of fun. We did a lesson about music, as well as a lesson about prayer. There were 15 kids, so we were missing a few families.

Music was up first. All the kids were supposed to bring their recorders so they could practice what they've already learned.

One mama used to be in marching band, and she does a great job of teaching the kids about music. We talked about rhythm and beats. The beat stays the same, but the rhythm changes with the words.

Each child was called up in a group to practice saying the rhythm that was up on the screen. It was a great way for her to make sure each one knew what was going on.

Even I got to participate today. I played my daughter's recorder as she wandered off and played with her friends for a little while. The mama teaching has each student play the notes as she goes around and makes sure everyone is playing it correctly.

We have all ages of kids participating. It's harder for some of the little ones to cover all of the holes with their fingers, so there is some squeaking. But everyone is learning!

This was a fun lesson and the kids did a good job playing "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" at the end.

The next part of the class was on prayer. I talked about different ways to pray - the ACTS prayer, praying with gratitude, and praying for character traits for ourselves or friends.
The ACTS prayer model is just an easy way to organize one's prayers. It consists of:

  • Adoration (of God and his qualities)
  • Confession (of sins)
  • Thanksgiving (to God)
  • Supplication (praying for others)

After talking about prayer, one mama wanted the kids to start praying for each other. She thought of a secret friend where they would encourage each other with a short note and say a daily prayer for their friend.

We gave each child a paper with the name of their friend on it so they could remember. It was a great time in class and the kids are still talking about it. They enjoy seeing their friends and learning something new.

This made me remember when I used to play it back then in primary school
I should still be good at it though

Very cool! You should get a recorder and play! These were cheap ones I got for $1 at a local store.
