I’m Anniebest, and this is AfriTunes Week 176. I’m truly delighted to be part of this week’s rendition. Today, I bring you a cover of the powerful song “Excess Love” by the blissful, beautiful, enthusiastic, zealous, passionate, and spirit-filled Nigerian gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.

Growing up, I’ve truly experienced what it means to be loved excessively by my parents. I can’t say one of them loved me more than the other, because I have seen each of them shower me with an irreplaceable kind of love. I remember how my heart would ache whenever I did something wrong because their love was so sincere.

Even so, no human love can ever compare to God’s love for mankind. He gave his only Son who was betrayed, beaten, and crucified by the very people He came to save, all to set us free from sin and death. Sometimes I imagine the scene: if it were a man of flesh on that cross, with the power of God, he would have destroyed everyone before they even got close. But Christ didn’t. He was led like a sheep to the slaughter. He didn’t open his mouth. He didn’t try to defend himself.

The love that God has shown us is beyond comprehension. That’s why the song “Excess Love” will never cease from my lips. I have nothing to give in return for all he’s done, only gratitude. All I can say is, “Thank You, Jesus, for loving me too much o,” just like the lyrics say.
