Hive Open Mic #151 - Hasta Mañana (ABBA)

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

This week's theme Faith, Hope, and Love has been chosen by @deeanndmathews and I in turn chose a song by ABBA as my entry.

ABBA - My Love, My Life

I have been a huge ABBA fan all my life, I was a kid when they started their individual careers in Sweden. After they became a worldwide sensation as a band by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with Waterloo I was on my way to being hooked.

I still remember my birthday in 1976 when my Mum bought me their album Arrival and hid it on the wardrobe. She didn't make a good job of it, and I sneakily listened to it when no-one was around, over and over! I was totally mesmerised by the sound of the band and the voices of the ladies.
I wanted to sing like them and during the course of their time in the limelight I learned all of their songs by heart, my untrained voice didn't thank me, something I will regret forever.

Hasta Mañana - Released in 1974

Lately I have been re-discovering their music and relearning some of the lyrics - yes, I've forgotten some -, but also learning to play them on guitar.
The song I am going to do today is one of their older ones and featured on the same album as Waterloo. I've always loved this one, it has a very clean sound with Agnetha Fältskog singing with her unmistakable voice, expressing all three parts of this week's theme, the lost love, but also the hope that the lovers meet again and the faith that they are meant to be together.
You can find a link to the wonderful lyrics further down, they were created by the "fifth ABBA", Stig Anderson, their manager.

Finally

I am not Agnetha, of course, but I still hope, you like my version of this song, which is another fairly new one and the intro didn't go according to plan, but hey, it's live.. haha..
I've had a little play with the sliders of my video software too, the background seemed a little boring. ha
Thanks for watching.

Ah I'd forgotten about this song. You do it well. I spent my formative years listening to Abba with my childhood friend Claire. Your perfomance brought back some lovely memories.

I just love the way you engage your audience in your videos and writeup. You make it look life and as such very captivating.
Dear friend, you have a great skill on the guitar and I see myself being fascinated each time I see you on it.
I am trying to learn to play it these days. Maybe I will play it someday on hive. But for now, I stick to my piano and violin
Kudos to you for a nice entry you rock!!

ABBA are fantastic, I too was hooked on their music from an early age. I saw 3 of them in real life, back in the early noughties when they launched Mama Mia the musical. I at the time was invited by a photography agency to cover the arrivals for the event on the red carpet. I'll dig out the photos from that era at some point, they should be on Hive as a photography series. I just need to figure out a way of getting the drives powered up and connected to my mac, sadly I lost the original cables for them and they are pre-USB etc.

OMG! That would be fantastic! I'm already excited seeing them!
Please, please, please, find a solution! 😄
Thanks, Nick!
ABBA forever! ✌️😄

I think Agnetha was missing, she hid from the public eye for many years and also saw Roni Ancona, who had the lead role at the time.

I can imagine she was, she's known to being a rather shy and reserved person.
Just looked Ronni Ancona up.. Cheers! 👍

Wow, thanks!
The colouring came in because I found the background a little bland..
I should try to be more artistic in future maybe..
Glad you like it! 😊

I think you need to get one of their outfits to perform in :) The 70s had some 'interesting' fashions.

(Edited)

Were people in the 70s all really short? They just looked taller with their platforms.

EDIT: I just saw what those cost!!

Very tall indeed! haha
I on the other could really do with these, but it wouldn't be save walking..
They look rather high..
