You are viewing a single comment's thread:

I was willing to fly to NY when Nightwish had their tour, but they ended up canceling it for political reason. And that wash shorty before Tarra quit the band.

This is one bad thing about living in Ecuador, the metal scene is very thin, and its limited to the capital. The bands that come here are few, and its a 9 hr roadtrip from where I am.

Anyway, looking forward to your write up on Battle Beast. I need to listen to them first but sounds like the kind of OG metal that takes you back to the 90's. Just guessing.

They sound like early nightwish, but slightly less operatic. More major keys and scales, an angrier edge, and a variety of time signatures.

It was an absolute era of female fronted metal. Its my daily sound track. :)

Very much so, with Epica, Cradle of Filth, Within Temptation, and a few more that I cant remember of the top of my head. Although, shortly after that my taste in female vocals changed. I started to like a more grungy / less operatic vocals.

You like Halestorm? The pretty reckless? (Though they're more "hard rock")

Jinjer, Arch Enemy (I absolutely love their instrumentals, too).

Anything Mark Jansen (After Forever, Epica, MaYaN) touched is splendid, imo.

Then there's Therion...

So many good bands no one will ever hear of.

Yep, Halestorm, Jinjer, Otep, Guano Apes, Arch Enemy, Hellfreaks... And a few non-english others.

I don't know MaYan.

And Therion, with its chorus, that was even earlier than all of the above... Deggial was my fav album.
